Perimenopause or depression?

Hi everyone, I’m new here so please be gentle! I think I might be perimenopausal, my periods have gone a bit irregular, I’ve been feeling more anxious than usual, and I’m practically glued to my fan these days. I haven’t had the classic hot flushes like some of my friends though. When I saw my GP, he suggested it might be depression, but it doesn’t really feel like that to me. Has anyone had a similar experience?

Have you had any blood tests? You might be low calcium which can cause similar symptoms to depression

Anxiety was my worse perimenopause symptom. I would get whooshes of it that woke me up. It would come and go - there seemed to be no rhyme or reason to it. So possibly it is the same for you.

yes, I get the same at the moment! Was there anything you tried that helped or did the anxiety get better naturally over time??

I think once I realised what it was I just tried to get through the days how I could. Distractions helped. I listened to the radio a lot. I started yoga too and walking. I didn't want to go down the HRT route. Looking back now I realise that the periods of anxiety became shorter and the 'good' periods in between became longer. The Winter was always worse. I still get it a bit but it is short lived.

Almost 99% certain you're in peri.
Not everyone gets hot flushes and feeling hot is pretty much the same thing anyway.

Makes me cross when GPs jump on the 'depression' bandwagon.

How old are you?
