I've always had PMT but my word, definitely peri, I have over the last year had a a chunk of time with outrageous burn the world rage then a break and now it's back. Deffo worse ovulation-start if period phase but I'm just fucking awful to live with, I enrage myself with the most minor inconvenience and in just making myself and everyone around me miserable!!!

Anything help anyone, very open to non hormonal advice options.

HRT absolutely calmed me the F down - I still had my period at that point. I was starting to get raging angry. Now I’m really very chilled.

SlB09 · 19/08/2025 23:37

@curious79 yeah still have periods,I mean a good sedative would struggle to touch the fire inside at times hahaha

I had awful PMT and was only offered antidepressants by the GP, it's standard practice FFS. In the end I took evening primrose, lots of it and if you decide to start effectively overdose yourself for about 4 weeks. The bloke in the health food shop told me that and he was right. In my late 20's and through out my 30's I took 2 or 3 large capsules a day. It worked for me anyway.

Patches- I’m still perimenopausal and they have kept the rage at bay for about 18 months now

PastelCat · 20/08/2025 14:36

Another vote for patches, calmed it all down.

HRT with antidepressants. Avoid alcohol! Walk away when you think you’re going to flip. Lots of rest & sleep. Funny podcasts and tv series. Walk…a lot

Mine are both - I think it depends what stage you are at (peri / full menopause) but the doctor (or nurse practitioner) will give you whatever's the right thing. There are various options though. Some people have a coil / gel for the skin etc.

SlB09 · 22/08/2025 21:36

@EatAllDay I definitely find myself needing more sleep and rest , not getting it definitely makes me worse. I'm learning to swallow it and I've started running, but sometimes I just snap at whoever asks me a question and then catch myself and think fucking hell, what an agro bitch! But I honestly struggle to prevent the snappyness. Walking and time alone also seems to help

I found Borage oil took for a long while and then seem fine - didn't really have pmt before so think it was peri related.

lovemycbf · 22/08/2025 21:44

Sertraline was a game changer for me as I can’t have Hrt

BeeandG · 22/08/2025 21:44

Antidepressants..fluoxetine. Taken it for 2+ years after the rage and anxiety were crippling me. Made a whole world of difference to me

CharlotteRumpling · 22/08/2025 21:46

Solo holidays and lots of time on my own.

SlB09 · 22/08/2025 23:03

@BeeandG I take fluoxetine already for pmt, maybe I need to up the dose? God knows what I'd be like without it

HRT the only thing that helped me.
