Continuous to sequential

I'm 51 and my periods had started to tail off to every 5/months when I went on everol 50 patches and 100mg progesterone, dr prescribed every day for 25 days then 3 days off. At my 3 month review, I told the Dr I was having a bleed every 2 weeks, not heavy just enough for a panty liner so they suggested continuous progesterone. This was 3 months ago. I'm still having a light bleed every 2 weeks on this. It's not the bleed getting me down, just the hormonal headache's and period cramps before every bleed. Been back to drs and they suggested I could go back to sequential, but the 14 day 200mg progesterone, or to up my conti progesterone to 200mg a day to stop the bleeds as upping progesterone isn't an issue. I am so confused for what to do for the best. Any advice please

Would you try a Mirena coil to hopefully stop the bleeds?

This explains when to use continuous. You should be post meno- 12 months with no period and over 54 or at least 1 year with no period at all.

POST MENOPAUSAL -
Continuous combined therapies.
"Period free" or continuous combined therapy can be used by women who are 54 + yrs, or more than one year since last period at any age. The criteria should be fulfilled in order to offer such treatment to women who no longer have a continuing ovarian cycle, so that steady levels of both estrogen and progestogen can be achieved. When there are steady levels of estrogen and progestogen from daily administration of both, the womb lining stays thin. Although some bleeding in the first 6 months of therapy is common, there should not be bleeding after that and the lining does not go through the stages of stimulation and then shedding as it does during a normal cycle and with sequential therapy. Start with low dose preparations and increase as necessary for symptom control.

It's your own periods that are breaking through because the progesterone isn't enough to control the cycle.

Your dr is right- either go back to sequential, or try 200mgs a day if you want to do that.

I was having exactly the same issues. I’m 52. I’ve had the coil for four months now. No bleeding. It’s been great!!
