Perimenopause supplements and progesterone

Hi. Might be a silly question, but you don't have to take progesterone tablets if you take a perimenopause supplement do you? On a perimenopause Facebook group someone suggested if you take anything that raises your estrogen to a level that has an effect you need to take progesterone. This was in response to someone having to stop HRT as she couldn't take it anymore and was looking for a more natural path to boost her estrogen. I take Vitawell perimenopause tablets from Home Bargains which contain Red Clover which is a natural phytoestrogen. I have been taking the Nutrition Geeks menopause bundle on and off which contains Magnesium, Tumeric, Lions Mane and ashwagandha. Obviously lots of foods contain phytoestrogens too.

I have vaginal HRT, but that's all and doesn't require progesterone.

Thanks for reading.

If you are looking to boost estrogen make sure you are eating enough natural fats, as in fatty meat, full fat dairy etc. The female hormones that are made in the body are made out of dietary fat.
The estrogen/progesterone thing depends on whether or not you still have a uterus, after a hysterectomy there is no need for progesterone, but if this estrogen is being prescribed the doctor will know and advise.

In a word, no @Freysky .

Progesterone is part of HRT.
It's regulated in the type and dose according to the dose of estrogen.

You don't need it if you take supplements because they are not prescribed meds.

They rarely work ( British Menopause Society has a statement on alternatives to HRT) and their view is there is little evidence that any supplements work .
