What's a "normal" strength estrogen patch?

I'm mid 40s and been using evorel 25 patch a few months with cyclical ultrogestan 2x tablets for 12 days each month.

My only obvious peri symptom was hugely worsening hormonal migraines, which cleared almost overnight when I started patches. No other migraine medication has helped me previously.

Now I find they're creeping back. I'm wondering if I need to increase the evorel dose but I guess I'm just concerned about having to do that so soon, given I'm still relatively young and presumably could be trying to keep hormonal migraine at bay a long time yet.

I'm wondering what dose of estrogen is normal for someone like me? Are there drawbacks to having to increase so quickly?

I think it's normal to start low and then increase. I think most women start on 50. I started on 50, went up to 75, then up to 100, now back to 75.

Thanks for your reply. Why did you go back down? Are you happy where you are now?

The usual dose is a 50mcg patch, 2 pumps of Estrogel, or a 1mgs tablet.

25mcg is very low and would normally be used for older women (over 60) starting HRT for the first time.

If you are having symptoms again it's usually advised to increase the dose.
If you prefer the patch that's fine but you can get a bit more flexibility with gel. You can use 1 pump or 1.5 pumps, which would be roughly a 37mcg patch.

Ah that's interesting thanks. I think my doc started me low because she wanted to tread super carefully with the migraine problem. But it sounds like increasing to 50 is a good idea.

@NeonSigns I went back down because GP is keen to reduce my dosage because I'm at high risk of breast cancer. But I'm not sure there's any evidence to suggest a lower dose would be better for me. GP is just being cautious. Symptoms have been creeping back so I'm quite keen to go back to 100.
