Nausea

Hey. I'm 47 and recently started some peri-menopause symptoms I think. One that I cannot deal with is nausea. I wondered how common this was. I've been trying to work out if it's a type of food that makes me nauseous, a situation (like travel, or rushing), anxiety, digestion, feeling too hungry, the onset of a headache or migraine. Anyway - I think it's my age! It's a real pain. I honestly cannot decide what to eat or if to eat but I've been trying to keep normal in that respect. I have begun to really moan to others about feeling sick and I'm becoming a bore.

Did you, or do you, feel the same during peri-menopause?

What helped?

Any advice gratefully received!

Thank you 🙏🏽

Yes nausea has been a big part of my menopause unfortunately 🙁 for me its the mornings, I wake up with it. Haven't found any solution as I can't take HRT as i had breast cancer.

Try charcoal tablets. Pepto bismol is good, too.

Thank you both. Nausea gets me all day sometimes - do you think it's associated with a particular time in a cycle? It has hit me when I'm ovulating; I'm still getting regular periods.

Thank you for the recommendation of charcoal and Pepto bismol. I've been using crystallised ginger but it's also very sugary.

I came on here looking for nausea threads. I'm 49 and been in peri about 9 years, seem to get one symptom for a while then that goes and another one comes. Periods are about 4 months apart although they seem to be getting further apart.
Nausea is my worst symptom at the moment, its most of the day and I have a very mild headache with it.
My health anxiety is off the scale and I'm so fed up with it all.
Hugs to you.

Oh interesting, I hadn’t even considered it might be peri menopause related!! I’ve been suffering recently too - often in a morning (periods are so erratic I even wondered if I might be pregnant on more than one occasion!), or if I’m hungry or travel sickness type feeling. I’m on HRT but I guess it doesn’t cure everything.

Choccymumma · 12/08/2025 19:39

Yes, I'm the same with the hunger and travelling too.
Need to find something to ease it.

Askingforadvice78 · 12/08/2025 21:39

Lovely of you two to post! I'm two weeks clear of nausea now, but should get it late next week if it's cyclical. I think I've only been peri-menopausal since I turned 47. Most of the time I'm ok but back in May I was also so IRRITATED by everyone and everything. That eased thankfully. Then is was migraine after chocolate. Then nausea. Nothing consistent - that said, I couldn't cope with any of these consistently because they've all been too extreme! 🙄

How long did you have the nausea for?

How long did you have the nausea for?

Ten days. 🤮 Actual sickness would have been preferable. It was so difficult to eat, and then again easy as I was always trying to find something to alleviate it. Then one day I woke up and it was gone.

I'm the same. My digestion has also gone to pot. GP not sympathetic

Askingforadvice78 · 13/08/2025 13:09

Changes I've made:

Baking bread with spelt flour (husband does this)
Greek yoghurt at least once a day;
Not eating past 7pm - really hard in this heat so yesterday evening, with teenagers out, just didn't bother because I would have eaten at 9pm;
Not snacking. Or trying not to 😂

The doctor has given me some cyclizine for the nausea so hopefully that will work soon. She's also going to do blood tests.

Lunellle111 · 23/08/2025 23:35

Yes I am also experiencing this horrible nausea.. I have it usually around ovulation and then a day or so before my period, however this month (currently day 20) has been horrendous! Nausea every day for the last week. It comes on in the evening around dinner time which leaves me not wanting to eat my dinner then leads to snacking for the evening. I am also in a really bad way with gas and IBS symptoms. I'm only 40 and have regular periods alongside a plethora of Peri symptoms unfortunately. They can be debilitating. Sending hugs to you all.
