Progesterone question

Topsyturvey10 · 29/07/2025 22:06

I’m using the new oestrogen spray (I found the gel messy and the patches came off easily when I exercised) and I take progesterone for 2 weeks out of 4. I haven’t had a period in around 3 months (I’m 50).

I am forgetting to take the progesterone tablets and recognise they are important but I wonder if it’s just easier to take one every night? What is the benefit of one a day as opposed to 2 for a fortnight?

This should explain a lot- How to Take HRT

TBH your GP ought to have explained all of this.

If you take HRT correctly you should get a withdrawal bleed every month. It's not a period. Your own periods may only happen now and then and HRT override them. If you're not taking progesterone regularly, that is probably why you've not had a withdrawal bleed. The bleed happens when the progesterone level in your blood falls- same as a your own periods/cycles.

There's loads on the Newson site about how it works and the difference between HRT for women who still have their own periods and women who don't (post meno.)
