Sinus issues

Hi I'm in late 40s think I'm in peri had quite a few symptoms. Got fitted with a coil in March. Anyway I've woken up with sinus pressure and pain 3 days in a row now. I do get this from time to time but usually it's weeks apart not every day. So wondering if it's peri related and hoping I'm not going to get it tomorrow again. It's mainly behind my eyebrows and down the side of my nose but I also had a pain at the back of my head.

I took tablets the last couple of days but trying to stay off them today if possible. I soaked a flannel in hot water and held it against my face which has helped relieve it a little. And had a shower too.

Been told to try a neti pot but I'm a bit nervous of them. Maybe I need to go for it though.

Anyone else experienced this symptom?

Wondering if I should speak to the doctor about things in general.

Thanks for reading.

I would speak to a doctor. I held off and had a sinus infection that took a couple of treatments to heal and I’ve been left with permanent rhinosinisitus. I’m not sure which tablets you’re talking about (do you mean decongestants?) I have a nasal steroid spray and eye drops (antihistamine with something else as over the counter antihistamines aggregated my eyes). I did already have asthma, which is related. And I have gained a lot of weight on medication - which I don’t think helps.

I got sinusitis for the first time in my mid 40s and then a few times a year until I started on hrt for other peri symptoms. It's quite rare that I get it now (fingers crossed). I tried saline rinsing, craniosacral therapy, antibiotics (that did help occasionally), decongestants... But hrt seems to have been the most helpful treatment which tells me that for me it was one of the many unexpected effects of decreased oestrogen.

To add, when I first got it and for years I had no idea it could be anything to do with hormones or even that I was in peri. We are told so little about any of this! Good for you for recognising it could be a peri symptom! I wish I'd realised sooner.

I’m in a lot of pain with pressure just as you described - it actually hurts when I move my eyeballs. I have allergic rhinitis - is this what you are describing @JulySunshine? Mine kicks off every year with tree pollen but that’s now over. Dust and dander both aggravate mine too, but I wouldn’t give up my dogs for anything. I have Mometasone? the steroid nasal spray but I never feel it really helps. I’m also suffering with terrible dizziness/seasickness feeling. No idea if that is related but in all honesty have not been right since December when I had that awful ‘razor blade/voicebox/throat virus’ and bubbling ears type infection that was going round. Liquid Sudafed usually helps me but I can’t take it at the moment as I feel so faint. I’m going to go back to the GP - hope you get some relief soon OP. It’s awful.

I think they’re similar but not the same. Mine is chronic rhinosinisitus on my notes. I think allergic rhinitis can be seasonal and short term but also long term. Chronic rhinosinisitus is always long term. Mine got triggered by a sinus infection - years ago now. They sound near identical though so I suspect it’s could be the same condition a lot of the time. I haven’t been given decongestants or antihistamine nasal spray as treatment, I have a steroid spray to take every day and if it flares up I get much stronger steroid liquid which I have to put in with my head upside down. The GP did suggest that I try lots of different antihistamines for two weeks at a time (each type works slightly differently so the recommendation was to keep trying till I found one that worked).

I would imagine the pain feels the same given what you describe. I would definitely go back if your pain is currently as you describe. The headache and pain in my face is awful from time to time but the treatment works and it gets reduced down to a mild pressure ache in my cheek bone. The eye drops are like magic. Over the counter ones made it worse. Mine is only on one side of my face.

Hi thanks for your replies. I was better by lunchtime and fine today so that's good. I am taking ceterizine hydrochloride I think it's non allergic rhinitis I was diagnosed with but that was years ago and I was given these tablets by another Dr. I get eye drops from Boots for dry eyes, ones without preservatives. I'll see if I can get an appointment thanks.
