Hello , doctor prescribed me HRT on Thursday and I’m still holding on to start them as I’m scared that makes my panic and anxiety worse . I’m 48 with short regular periods and one ovary was removed 5 years ago. Not done anything hormonal since then.
Lately my anxiety is constant and I’ve read many people saying the evorel makes it way worse . I don’t know what to do . šŸ˜ž

I was prescribed them about 3 months ago 😬 but since then life has been chaotic - think family bereavement and all the stress that goes with it. I haven't had chance to think about using them and my period symptoms kind of took a back seat for a while. I'm on the mini pill so don't have periods, so I'm guessing I can just put one on whenever.

Have they tested you for intolerances so you know why your bloating is happening?
Yes without a period you can just put the patch on just don’t stick the wrong one .

Take your time and do it when you’re ready .

I've had a test for coeliac and it was normal. I have done my own intolerance test that I got online and I'm apparently intolerant to yeast but I've drastically cut it out. Everything comes back to IBS after I've had tests.

I will try the patches at some point I feel like I need to be in the right headspace to do it though.

i am on my 3rd box...
i took a little time to get started but my anxiety had gone to an unmanageable level, when i spent the day in cold terror, fighting back the thoughts, ruminating, and scanning for threats.
i also had aches, super heavy periods, low mood etc.

i ve not bloated, felt off or unwell on either phase of the sequi. Anxiety improved on boxes 1 and 2, but is sadly back thanks to a work trigger.

periods are sadly the same, and aches a little bit better.

i m hoping that a few more month, and everything will be smoother. Good luck OP

I think it’s important to consider all the things that often go hand in hand with peri and see HRT as just one avenue of treatment. I don’t think they are a magical cure all. If you are suffering with anxiety, brain fog, dark ruminating thoughts etc, these are all symptoms of low iron (doesn’t have to be below the ridiculous low threshold of normal, just low) and also vit b and vit d deficiency. In the end I had a list of bloods done, all normal, went on HRT, then by some complete chance I spoke to a practice nurse and she looked at my blood results properly, looked at how they had changed over time- eg ferritin had dropped from 80 to 36 to 23 in 6 months. ā€˜Normal’ is 11 to about 200. My results were getting stamped by the lab as normal and dr never looking at them! I think it’s helped me so much to look at this holistically, treat it holistically - after all, it affects us holistically doesn’t it? Unfortunately this is where the nhs fails us, and if one more doctor tries to tell me I’m exhausted all the damn time because ā€˜women have such busy lives now’ and I will scream! I feel so much better now but I still have days where I don’t feel like myself, but the HRT has definitely taken the edge off. My gp advised that I phase them out a while ago, just to see if I still needed them (as they never believed I needed them in the first place and wanted to stick me on anti anxiety meds) - within 3 weeks I was back in a very dark place and also developed a huge breast cyst. So they do definitely help.

Yes, the question of iron metabolism is also very key as the PP has said. I suspect that periods themselves have a lot to do with that and the fluctuations. Not sure whether anyone recommended iron tablets if this is low, but I find them horrible on the stomach, my DH also has naturally low iron and cannot handle taking them at all. An in-cheek spray, sometimes intended for pregnancy, or liquid iron sachets in juice, seem to be tolerated better, and these are available off the shelf.

I developed anxiety with peri for the first time in my life and it’s mostly gone with sequi

I started the first patch yesterday and I’m not even joking when I say that after 4 hours I had a rush of energy and my anxiety went away even the ringing my legs that never goes away went away.
Today I feel really sleepy and anxiety came back šŸ˜“ I’ve just been crying because I don’t feel like me anymore.

One of the many doctors that spoke with me said from my blood works since October iron been lowering a little bit all doctors said to me it’s normal, this doctor said it’s that really really low but it’s still anemic at 95 and gave me some iron . This makes me think of all the dark thoughts I had during that time and the endless anxiety together with depression. Also vitamin D is at 34 and same doctor should be at least 70 . šŸ¤”
