Bleeding after 16 years

Sminty2 · 10/07/2025 21:27

Just that really. Had the menopause 16 years ago, no issues since. At the weekend, I had some mild cramping and a bit of spotting for a couple of days. Now stopped. Didn’t happen after sex either, husband died last year.
Anyone else had this or any advice? Thank you.

You need to see your GP. It could just be one of those things, but it could be symptomatic of problems, and if so, it's better to get it treated sooner than later. Good luck.

Thank you. I will phone them tomorrow morning and book an appointment.

Sorry, but yes, you definitely need to see your GP. A friend is currently undergoing investigations for this after only a couple if years after menopause. They gave been quite clear you shouldn't get any bleeding at all.

best wishes xx

Chazbots · 10/07/2025 21:44

Pelvic physio advised me to get straight to a GP if I ever got unexpected bleeding post-menopause. Hope it's something simple.

Arrestedforit · 10/07/2025 21:44

Yes, me too, similar situation. I was a benign polyp and removed after investigation and through day surgery. See your GP and hopefully you’ll be on the 2 week possibility of cancer pathway.
Just to reiterate, it’s likely and hopefully benign xxx

Sminty2 · 10/07/2025 21:50

Thank you all, I just wasn’t really sure if it was just stress but you all know that it’s better to be safe than sorry. I will definitely phone tomorrow. Thanks for helping x

You should be referred on the 2 weeks cancer pathway. Don't panic,it's standard for post menopausal bleeding. You should be sent for scan. Lots of innocent reasons for bleeding so don't stress x

Meltingatm · 10/07/2025 21:56

Don’t ignore and try not to panic. In my case it was fibroids. Best of luck.

I have an appointment with my doctor on Tuesday morning. That’s a relief 😊

Hope it goes well.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 11/07/2025 15:32

Great, well done .

Sminty2 · 15/07/2025 19:28

Had my appointment and you were all correct, thank you.

She’s had a good look, cervix is fine, no issues. Slight bit of a blood plug at the entrance, so she’s put me on the two week pathway for an internal ultrasound. Will see what that reveals but lots of ‘highly unlikely’ but best to check etc

I am moving house in three weeks, so not the best timing 😊

Thank you again. You were all really helpful and reassuring.

Hope all goes well with the move and let us know how you get on with your appt, fingers crossed it's nothing sinister.

Thank you

Had the vaginal ultrasound today and then saw the consultant, who completed a smear test too.

I have vaginal atrophy. She has prescribed Estriol cream and that will cure it.

Apparently, it’s another joyous side effect of being a widow but I’m very relieved it’s nothing serious and a huge thank you to all of you for your honest support and kindness.

Thank you ❤️

Pleased you got the OK. Big relief, I'm sure.
However, having sex doesn't stop VA.
Many women use topical estrogen so they can have sex.

I do hope your GP isn't telling women the 'cure' for VA is sex.
Because not all women have partners in their lives.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 23/07/2025 20:40

Glad all is ok OP 😊
