Vaginal light therapy

MrsGuyOfGisbo · 05/07/2025 16:11

I have experienced pain and cystitis with a (lovely 😀) new partner who on the large side (girth). Given antibiotics etc and we are making progress with using lube so that PIV is now possible and enjoyable , but still difficult on entry.
I have had success on my neck previously with LED light therapy and have now bought a device to use for vaginal use.
Would be interested to know if anyone has tried this successfully?

I have one and think it has improved my vaginal dryness situation and sensation

simsbustinoutmimi · 05/07/2025 16:27

Load of rubbish honestly. I have a similar issue with my partner and his girth. Lube makes all the difference.

UTis after sex have nothing to do with his penis size. Try peeing straight after sex it may help avoid them. If they’re recurrent, you may need a longer antibiotic dose as infections can lie dormant

There is also no source it helps with vaginal dryness.

The US regulator, external has already said it is "deeply concerned" women can be harmed by the procedure.

That's a different item. I assume OP is talking about issviva which is not a lazer.

Summerhillsquare · 05/07/2025 18:59

Um, your neck is not the same as your vagina.

It's not clear what you think the specific problem is you are trying to fix. What has your doctor diagnosed you with?

it looks like a vibrator with a heat lamp in it?

TheLurpackYears · 05/07/2025 20:08

Is this still a problem after you are fully up to date with vaginal oestrogen?

JinglingSpringbells · 06/07/2025 09:13

The treatment you need is vaginal estrogen @MrsGuyOfGisbo

See your GP and discuss. Just say you're experiencing pain when having sex.

You can use cream - Estriol cream 0.1%- or a tiny pessary called Vagifem.

I'd not touch an LED - or let it touch me!

Yes have discussed with my doc several times -he is treating the uti with antibiotics and given me prophylactic antibiotics to take before PIV. The lube definitely is helping and also my bf is very attentive and I’ve found that an orgasm (or two 😀) makes it much easier for the PiV, also starting with me on top so I can control the speed of access…
Upside is that when it does work he is the only man who I’ve been able to orgasm with during PIV.

I have the same issue with my boyfriend being too girthy and I agree being turned on or finished off beforehand is a good option if you don’t want to use lube. I find keeping it in the room is a good idea anyway!

Overtheatlantic · 06/07/2025 19:30

Missing the point but I hate the word girth. 😾

It sounds as if you should still use vaginal estrogen. This helps by stopping bacteria taking hold. This is well known.

Have you had tests for infections and is there one rather than just trauma?

Lube does just that. It's a short term 'fix'. It doesn't help the vaginal and bladder tissues go back to their healthy state. That needs vaginal estrogen.

MrsGuyOfGisbo · 06/07/2025 21:34

Yes have been on vagifem for years.
Sorry about the word ‘girth’ I dint like it either but don’t know how else to describe it 😀

I have a joylux, when I use it, it makes a big difference (also on vaginal pessaries), but it takes 9 minutes for a programme and tbh I can’t often be bothered. I know I should as it does work.

You might want to consider increasing the dose. Twice a week is very low.

You might also want to think about swapping Vagifem for cream (called Estriol 0.1% - patented as Ovestin, now just generic.) It has a moisturising effect anyway as it's a cream and you can use it externally around the entrance.

If you want to do anything else you can buy medical grade dilators that help.

Bacteria won't take hold so easily if you restore the normal healthy lining to the vagina and bladder- that might mean upping your Vagifem to every day for 2 weeks - called 'reloading' - and then keeping at it for maybe 3 to 4 days a week, not just 2.

Thank you! I did ask the doc about that and he said two a week is enough….cost saving? May go private in that case.

You don't need to go privately. You can buy Vagifem over the counter - called Gina- or the cream is called Ovesse.

You may be asked some questions like are you over 50 and are you post menopause. This doesn't apply if from a GP but OTC those are the 'rules'.

The cost for the NHS is very low. Ovesse (Estriol) is around £10 for a tube lasting for 15 applications. If you buy it yourself OTC it's closer to £20.

MrsGuyOfGisbo · 07/07/2025 11:38

Oooh thanks -don’t realise it is OTC!!!

I’m really suffering with soreness atm and I am swollen down there- can that happen with menopause
? I’m already on vigirux x 2 and estriol cream for external use as well as a coil and oestrogel . I’ve bought the victory oil and I’ve been looking at the joylux thing advertised by Halle berry . It would be worth £250 to not feel like this tbh. Do you think it’s not safe then ?

I’m seeing my doctor next week so was going to ask them . I’m willing to try anything.,
I’ve also bought sea buckthorn supplements to try.
Feel quite fed up - I was in an unhappy marriage for years and only in recent years have I had a lovely partner who I really enjoy sex with. We live a way apart though and don’t see each other more than a couple of times a month - I believe frequent sex is a good treatment for vaginal atrophy and so I’m failing there :(
I’m glad I’ve found this thread , non of my friends have mentioned these issues so I feel pretty alone !

The BBC? Are you serious? Why do you think they are experts on the menopause and vaginal atrophy?

Changedforsafety · 18/12/2025 07:06

This BBC report is about laser not red light. Completely different treatments. My gynae ( very well respected) did not advocate laser but said the red light was worth a try . I haven’t yet taken the plunge as I seem to have a good result with a change of vag. Oestrogen to Blissel gel, indicating I may have seen sensitive to the compound that was in the Estriol.
There are so many doctors now coming out and advocating for all women to take vag. oestrogen if they are able to , as there are other important protections around bone health, dementia and continence. So I will be continuing with my existing regime and definitely looking at the red light therapy soon as well.

Changedforsafety · 15/01/2026 21:02

Update , not yet tried red light therapy , but the blissel plus Yes VM added to HRT regime has worked. Still not discounted the Joylux if needed as my private gynae said worthy of consideration .
