There was a thread on here (or at least on MN) about the surprises of menopause. Someone mentioned using Estriol as an additional treatment for genital itching. I want to say THANK YOU. I was already using Gina and it had made it loads better but I was always feeling slightly tender and "on the edge" of itching if that makes sense? I am now using Biovea Estriol cream and the comfort is blissful. This isn't any kind of ad, I am only mentioning the brand so that people know the actual one that worked for me.

I’m a big fan of Estriol cream so recommend it. Glad it’s worked for you. We need to spread the word!

Can you use this in addition to Vagirux? Or is it instead? Thanks

You can use it externally, as well as using Vgaifem/Vagirux internally.

Personally I don't know and I am not going to suggest what other people should or can do. My online research suggests that Gina and Vagirux are the same (10 micrograms of estradiol) but if you are using vagirux, that indicates to me that you are having it prescribed by a doctor whereas I fall into the category who can get it from a pharmacist so less at risk. maybe someone else will find this thread and answer you.

Thanks both - I will speak to my menopause specialist. I’m having HRT prescribed for me as I’m menopausal and so it’s much cheaper than buying from the pharmacy.

Do you mean systemic HRT or topical vaginal treatment?

Although vaginal estrogen is in theory 'HRT' it's not really in the true sense, as it's a topical estrogen product. That's why it can be bought over the counter now by women over 50 (but that age doesn't apply if a dr prescribes it.)

Be aware that some GPs aren't up to speed and may say you use one or the other ( Vagifem or estriol cream) whereas specialists don't say that - both products are extremely weak.

I am being prescribed Oestrogel, Utrogestan and Vagirux by my GP and testosterone by my menopause specialist. I am planning to ask my GP to prescribe the testosterone too once I have had my next private appointment/blood test result. I will ask about the topical cream too.
