Hi am in the midst of peri-menopause, taking HRT for 9 months (gel and utrogestan). My period was 2 weeks late this cycle, I’ve come on today and my god the cramps, I’ve never experienced anything like it, I’m in agony, feel sick, can’t hardly move and can’t concentrate on work so have had to log off for a bit.

I’ve taken paracetamol and have found a heat pack but need a quick fix so I can get back to work. I’ve never had cramps like this before

Do you have any ibuprofen? I find that much more helpful than paracetamol.

Thanks @YesHonestly I’ve just found a random pack and taken a couple, hopefully they’ll kick in soon.

I can’t cope with this every time I have a period from now on.

No advice yet but going through the same thing. I am fifty, no real menopause symptoms except tiredness and aching joint/muscles. Always had it easy but by God that's not the case anymore! They are so much heavier and more painful. Around every third month the pain is almost unbearable, doubled over unable to concentrate on anything else pain.
Didn't have this problem before I started Evorel patches so maybe it's the hrt? Need to get myself back to the doctor and see what they think. I'm just taking ibuprofen regularly to keep it bearable until then.

The ibuprofen helped but not enough that I could concentrate on work.

It’s the first time it’s happened but so debilitating I’m already thinking of going to the Drs. Not sure if they’d just fob me off or not and suggest I wait and see what next periods are like.

I think it can just be like this when you are perimenopausal. I've started to have irregular periods and then get the odd really heavy one. IIRC the HRT is supposed to regulate the hormones but can be overridden by your body sometimes.

You can buy OTC Tranexamic acid tablets. These are to reduce heavy bleeding and painful periods, and can be used with HRT, but best to ask your GP too.

This was the final straw for me a few months ago. I have finally had the coil fitted. No bleeding now for four months. Life changing!
