Night sweats, perimenopause, and going from 2 urtogestan a day every two weeks to 1 a day every day

I take three pumps of oestrogel and that’s fine, until my urtogestan cycle, when if I take three pumps, I end up with night sweats and hot flashes.

I’d like to try taking one urtogestan a day every day, instead of two for two weeks, as I wonder if the urtogestan suddenly means I’m all out of balance (hence the sweats).

Has anyone done this? Or has anyone experienced anything similar?

I am reluctant to up my oestrogel to four pumps as it both seems like a lot (I’m 44) and I am currently being investigated for rheumatoid arthritis and I read that excess oestrogen can cause inflammation and trigger RA. I’ve tapered down to three pumps a day from four, because of this.

I can’t afford to go back to my menopause doctor as she was private. And my GP isn’t an expert.

What about the Mirena coil? It means a more consistent progesterone level

flufffyyydog · 11/06/2025 06:56

I hadn’t thought of that! I have had a coil before and absolutely hated getting it put in. But I kept it in for four years and it was fine when in. Oh, but getting it put in… that was awful! If it can get rid of these night sweats and hot flashes then it’d be worth it. Do you think it might?

In the meantime, if try the one tablet a day thing, I’m not sure when to start either. At the end of my current cycle of 14 days?

I have the mirena coil and take 1 utrogestan pill per day, plus 3 pumps of gel. The pill was to help with insomnia - the amount of progesterone through the coil wasn’t really enough to help with sleep.

I’ve had no problems. I know it’s not the standard pattern but was recommended by a private menopause specialist so I feel comfortable with it.
