I’m 48. Is this pregnant or menopause?

I am 48. Came of the pill in September last year. Periods only returned and became regular since January. I’m a week late. Everything screams perimenopause. But I did a test on pregnancy. Am I over thinking this?

Helpful if any ladies going through similar and think it’s peri menopause. I’m confused.

Yes perimenopause can cause false pregnancy tests. I had a false positive test in hospital - there's no way I could have been pregnanct - I hadn't had sex in a year.

I was in hospital for a procedure, which is why they tested to check I wasn't pregnant. I spoke to the doctor about it at length, they said there are similar chemicals to HCG which can cause a false positive, your body produces them when it is trying it's hardest to force ovulation.

I had the procedure, retested 3 days later with my GP - test was negative.

Don't panic, just wait 3 days and retest. But if it is positive again then go to your GP. Dr told me I'd need other hormone tests if I kept getting false positives
