Natural remedies for hot flushes, anyone?

what works for you? I don't drink or smoke, exercise a fair bit.

I am off my HRT for a bit; want to explore if anything natural works.

I take Menoforce Sage and Menopace. I haven’t had a hot flush since taking them. I don’t take HRT.

I use Stronglife Menopause relief patches & use Magicool spray & a fan at night.

I have just read 'Grow your own HRT' and am convinced enough to try sprouting red clover seeds.

I use red clover leaves, cimicifugia roots, hibiscus flowers, lemon balm and rose hips to make an infusion (it includes some things for high blood pressure).. it helps.

I took a supplement - soy isoflavones. It really helped, I could certainly tell when I'd forgotten to take it.

Then, since Christmas, I've started losing weight using WLI and the hot flushes have completely stopped. Weird. I have this theory it could be the release of the oestrogen stored in my (rapidly disappearing) belly fat but I don't know.

Black cohosh and red leaf clover are the 2 herbs that are mentioned as possibly helping but there is no science to show they do.

If you google this you can read the science which is summed up by the British Menopause Society in their report on 'alternatives to HRT'.

40% of positive outcomes are due to the placebo effect they say. So if you ask 100 women, nearly half will say it helped.

I read this book,
Good Fat is Good for Women: Menopause: Bright, Elizabeth

And switched to a high fat diet, it is working for me.

As one PP said, a lot this is going to be placebo effect, the belief that we are doing something has a positive effect on us, but I do like the rationale behind a high fat diet. Plus it means I get to drink cream in my coffee. :)

Bear in mind she is a chef, not a doctor or medic.

We all need to eat healthy fats like the ones in nuts, olive oil, dairy, etc.

Fatter women (with more body fat) have more estrogen but it increases the risks of all female cancer.

Yes, I am worried that there is no science at all and it's all placebo.
I might also try to see a menopause specialist and tinker with my HRT. It's so expensive though.

HRT made me bloat up. I have gone a whole dress size down since stopping it. But it worked really well for my hot flushes and energy.

I am not overweight though I could lose half a stone. I eat very healthy: lots of veggies, nuts, lentils.

So tired of the balancing act.
