Just been asked if I want the Mirena inserted at same time as hysteroscopy!

I'm literally sitting on the bed waiting for my slot. (Having hysteroscopy under GA for reasons of non-barbarism and a history of cervical shock.) The nice gynae said did I want to consider a Mirena to deliver continuous progesterone alongside my sandrena gel I'll continue to take? I think, probably yes??

Wasn't expecting this option today TBH, though I know it's often offered. I'm having a hysteroscopy because of slightly thickened lining and a bit of an odd bleeding pattern. I'm 52 in July, on HRT for three years sequentially. I have a withdrawal bleed, can be quite painful some cycles.

I had one put in under ga while having hysteroscopy and it’s been brilliant.

Did you have a lot of spotting afterwards, and did that last a long time?

Glad it's worked for you!

I'm trying to find out if the slightly increased breast cancer risk is anything to worry about. I feel conflicted - up to now, what I'm on seems ok, I don't have heavy periods (just this issue with uneven bleed pattern) and I think I still have a natural cycle sometimes so I'm concerned about my natural hormones breaking through at times. Don't fancy lots of spotting if it's protracted (and I use a menstrual cup, can't be doing with pads).

Womb lining only 7.6mm at scan. Maybe I should hold out longer on my sequential progesterone for a bit longer. Hmmm.

(Sorry Haggisfish, this is very ungrateful after your prompt response to my post!)

I'm not sure if I mentioned this on your other thread, but unless your scan was done right at the end of a bleed, the lining measurement is pretty meaningless. On sequential is can be very high if it's measured mid cycle or before a bleed. (like 10mm or more during the proliferation stage.)

I've had countless scans and am always advised to arrange them for immediately after a bleed as far as possible (this is privately so I can control the timings.)

The most obvious solution if you're spotting in between is to increase the progesterone either by number of days or dose over 14 days.

Being cynical, coils are sometimes 'pushed' as it makes it less likely women will need scans, so it takes the pressure off the NHS.

Ah fair enough. I had such heavy periods I found them to have a huge impact.

I’ve found mirena great in conjunction with HRT. Any opportunity to get pain relief during insertion definitely recommended.

I did a bit of reading on my hospital bed and decided - well, I'm luckily not having very heavy periods, I didn't have very thick lining, I get cervical shock when my cervix is buggered about with, and I'm actually getting on fine with oral progesterone, plus I suspect I still have a natural cycle at times - so I did a reverse and said no thanks in the anaesthetic room!

Hysteroscopy went quickly and well, I assume - nobody really debriefed me afterwards and now I just have to wait for biopsy results.

Thanks for posts here, much appreciated while I was sitting there waiting to be taken down. Smile

Glad it went well and sounds like the right decision for you.
