Stopping HRT

Hi,

If I need to have private blood test (menopause profile) to determine where I am before I get involved in any change of HRT how long might I need to be off it?

Thank you.

Not enough information, because what you are asking doesn't make sense on its own.

Why do you need to come off HRT?

Wheat blood tests do you need?

Why do you need a blood test?

If your HRT isn't relieving symptoms, the medical advice is the HRT dose is either increased or decreased, or you try a different type.

You don't need blood tests for your own hormone levels as they aren't accurate. HRT dose isn't prescribed depending on blood tests.

If this is a private clinic suggesting this, I'd be concerned.

Blood tests are needed before being prescribed testosterone though.

But you don't need to come off HRT for that

OP didn't mention this.

If what you're currently taking is not working for you, why don't you just change to a different type? I can't see what difference a blood test when you're not on any HRT is going to make if it's already agreed you're in perimenopause.

I was started on elleste duet, the progestin days made me suicidal, switched to oestrogel and natural progesterone and it's worked for me. I'd prefer oestrogen patches, but supply seems a bit hit and hiss sometimes.

Thanks, I asked the private tester and given my age but they just say you can be on hrt, but surely that just skews results.

I have gotten to taking 2 pumps of Oestrogel and 1x progesterone completely each month with no break, having periods like clockwork a symptom has returned, but a hospital has recently refused to see me and said the gp should change the HRT - I don’t know if they mean pattern frequency or change of gel to patches or something else entirely. The gp has just referred me to book to see an advanced nurse practitioner who helped for 5 minutes during last summer, when I think I was more thoroughly depressed then needing HRT.

I’ve tried going along to local informal menopause groups but the elderly ladies just say are you sure you need to be here.

What 'private tester ' is this?

How old are you?

if your periods had stopped for 12 months before starting on HRT then you're on the right sort.

If your periods had not stopped and you are still young (under 54) then you're on the wrong sort of HRT.

The sort you're on is called combined continuous. That is a bleed-free type for women post menopause.

If you're bleeding regularly every month you don't sound post meno.

So, what you should be on is sequential HRT - estrogen gel every day and 200mgs of Utrogestan every month for 12 days.

Who gave you the type of HRT you're on now?
Was peri meno and post meno not part of that discussion?
