Clitoral atrophy?

I’m 50 with no menopausal symptoms other than not sleeping as well as I used to. Still have regular periods. No decline in libido- probably higher than my boyfriend’s- would happily have sex a few times a week. Currently have sex every weekend when he stays over and I still fancy him like crazy and the sex is fantastic. I have noticed that orgasms take longer to get to in last year or so - which is not a major problem because he’s patient and attentive. However, more recently they just don’t feel the same at all- it’s like I get to the point of it happening and then instead of the big ‘wave’ it just fizzles and it feels sensitive like I have cum but didn’t really, if you know what I mean. I exercise regularly and eat well and all that. Been applying Estriol for a few months but no change. I’m wondering if it’s physical or psychological? Have made appointment with GP for next week but in meantime I’m looking for any of your experiences, advice please, anything I can try? Miracle cures? 🤣 Please!

Tribulous Terresteris might be worth a try.
I found it beneficial 😳

I would bet this is pelvic floor related. Trying doing some regular pelvic floor exercise (NHS squeezy app is good) or if possible see a women’s physio

I’m interested. Which one would you recommend? How long have you been taking it?

Just been reading about the studies! Which one do you recommend and what dosage please?

I would bet this is the beginning of a larger issue with vaginal atrophy. So maybe a referral to a menopause expert? It could be that you need added testosterone.

Maybe but everything is fine in the fanny department. No dryness, discomfort, itchiness etc and intercourse still as enjoyable as ever. It’s all fine except when it gets to the final climax point when it’s just not earth shattering most of the time- only occasionally

I think the thing is these changes occur very slowly. For me, they started a long, long time before I had any awareness they were linked.

First a slight reduction in libido. I welcomed it. I'd always been rampant and it was borderline irritating.
Slight changes in orgasm. I put it down to pressures of work and also the longevity of my relationship.
The next symptom was problems with my clothes giving me persistent camel toe. I put that down to losing weight and having a slightly less rounded vulva!

So the trickle down in changes continued. I've never really had dryness, or itching. The shock really occurred when I realised it wasn't just weight loss, that my vulva had actually shrunk a bit. And with the orgasm issue (lacking in intensity, still multi orgasmic, but orgasms 2 & 3 reduced in intensity consecutively), I had not a lightbulb moment exactly, but more a slowly dawning awareness.

But due to past breast cancer, I can't take HRT, so was referred to a menopause specialist. Who laid out the gradual steps of vaginal atrophy. We don't all experience the same symptoms. But the cause is the same. Menopause/peri menopause.

boccaallupo · 09/04/2025 10:03

Ah ok, well hopefully my GP can shed more light on all that if that’s the case. Did the specialist help with any solutions in any way? Or have you found anything that helps other than HRT?

Basically, I've had to choose. Risk a topical HRT or put up with the VA. I've chosen the risk. But I'm worried about it. I'll cope with with reduced libido/poor orgasms but some of the other symptoms of VA are too scary to allow to develop. My mother died from vulval cancer which probably started from the effects of VA so it's a balancing act for me.

@boccaallupo
@dontcryformeargentina

This is the one I have - https://amzn.eu/d/ireGIwY

I take half a tab as found out 6000 was way too high!
Allegedly it can increase your libido which was my reason for trying it, can't say it's had a massive impact there but it's had a the pleasant side effect of everything feeling more intense.
I found out about it from some article where the author had taken some golden magic menopause pills for £££ and found them beneficial - my research indicated this was the active ingredient at a fifth of the price.

Hope it helps you too!

boccaallupo · 09/04/2025 12:15

I’ve ordered them and they’re coming - pun intended hopefully!!- tomorrow 🤣🤞🏻

@boccaallupo - any improvement? 👀

Shoemadlady · 25/04/2025 00:26

You can buy some clitoral sensitive stuff in Ann summers that is supposed to increase sensation. It’s a gel you rub on (or your partner can 😉) supposed to be great!

boccaallupo · 25/04/2025 09:03

Definitely improvement on both occasions last weekend. Placebo effect? Who knows 🤷🏻‍♀️ But it’s helped psychologically to know it is still all working down there. My boyfriend is away this weekend so I’ll have to experiment again solo and see what happens. GP prescribed HRT but I’m waiting for my next period to start that. I’ve tried a couple of those gel things for sensitivity but haven’t really found they helped much unless anyone can recommend one in particular?
