Anyone got fibroids and had raised CA125 due to this and it not be ovarian cancer

I went to the GP to try and get HRT. Blood tests and examinations later I'm told I have raised CA125 which is the marker for ovarian cancer. GP hadn't got the results of the ultrasound and told me she would put in an urgent referral to gynae.

Ultrasound results came back and ovaries appeared normal although the 2 biggest fibroids were just a bit bigger than ping pong balls and the uterus lining showed adenomyosis. She was reassured.

I've just had my bloods redone and the CA125 was raised further. The dr who rang (not the same one) said simply that he was putting an urgent (2 - 4 weeks) referral in because they are worried about cancer.

I have pain most days now and through my period have to take pain relief over 24hrs for 3 days before it subsides even though I'm on tranexamic acid.

Anyone else had incresed CA125 and it not be due to cancer? apparently the test is not diagnostic and only 25% of women with raised levels have cancer - only half of those have ovarian cancer and the other half have a different cancer.

Thank you

The CA125 test is known to be inaccurate. Even in women with advanced OC it's only 80% accurate. False negatives are very common. A high result can be caused by all sorts of conditions including endometriosis. The fact you've had a pelvic scan surely shows there are no tumours on your ovaries?
Your fibroids are big though- so they and the adeno could be causing the high c125.

On another note, there is no need for blood tests on women over 45 who want HRT and neither are examinations necessary. Why did they do those?

I'm not a doctor, so don't take this as medical advice, but I'm replying on the basis of having had many discussions with my consultant, a CA125 test done, an ovarian cyst and I do have adeno.
