Mirena and periods

I am 49 and just got my second coil fitted last month so it will get me to 54. I had my first one fitted when I was 44. I have not had a period since having the coil fitted when I was 44 which is great because excessive bleeding was the main reason I got it fitted. I was wondering if other people are the same and how we know when we are in menopause? I am in peri and on hrt patches with the mirena but I will have no way of knowing when my menstrual cycle stops for the 12 months to know if I am in menopause and does it matter really?

I am 53 and had a hysteroscopy for various bleeding issues at the start of the year, and they fitted me with a Mirena (which stopped the bleeding dead that afternoon). I asked the same question of the technician who said 1) you won't know if you're in menopause, and 2) it doesn't really matter. She said that if you had daughters (I don't have kids) it's sometimes helpful to pass on details in case family gynaecological history is required by your kids in the future (my mum died during menopause at 53 so I have no idea on that) but otherwise she just said, it doesn't matter.

I suppose the question is, does it really matter? Unless you want to stop HRT altogether, then you'll still need progesterone with the patches and the mirena is a brilliant solution if it works for you?

That said, I have still had cycles on HRT so I know I'm still ovulating. And I still get PMT.

I was the same, I'm late 50s now and no periods since my early 40s, with my second Mirena I was told it would last 10 years because of my age. However I had a bit of bleeding around the 10 year mark a few months ago, so went to the GP and had it removed, they sent me off for investigations into the bleeding (all clear). So it hasn't mattered but I am a bit curious as to what would have happened without it IYSWIM.

Thanks all. Yes I guess it doesn't really matter just more curiosity to know when I get it taken out at 54 have I been through mesopause yet. My own mum had a hysterectomy mid 40s due to hemorrhaging so no idea what age she would have been through menopause at.

I am very happy with it and very glad it works so well for me and I no longer have a period because mine were getting very heavy and I worried they were going the same way as my mums who could not leave the house before she got her hysterectomy because of the huge blood loss she was suffering from
