Will progesterone stop period? (Holiday and hrt)

Hello, I take progesterone and oestrogen gel. I'm about to go on holiday, and would expect to finish progesterone and have some kind of period while I'm away - it's a beach holiday and I really don't want this!
I normally take two utrogestan tablets for 12 days a month. Does anyone know if I start now and take one tablet everyday, would that keep bleeding at bay? I don't think it would be harmful as it wouldn't be any more progesterone overall.

when is your holiday?

It's a gamble, taking 1 tablet a day. This is because you're changing to combined continuous. The guidance on that is you may have erratic bleeding at any time. This is because the amount of progesterone in 1 tablet isn't always enough to control the growth of the womb lining instantly. Women who change to combined continuous are told to allow 6 months to be bleed-free with no spotting etc.

It may work, it may not.

The other option is to start Utrogestan later (not sure if you've time for this?)
So you'd extend the estrogen-only weeks by another week etc. OR continue to take 2 capsules so you don't have a bleed.

Do you know when you start to bleed? I find it takes usually 3-4 days for me after the last tablet.

I bled on utrogestan. I'm now on continuous progesterone and I'm on my 4th period this month (usually have 1 period a month, no clue what my body thinks it's doing), so deffo not guaranteed.

Thank you both. Likely to be swimming on Monday - think it might be starting today. It was when I read the details of the pill some people buy to stop periods. I saw it was progesterone so though I could maybe achieve the same thing with utrogestan. Or, if it comes now and goes away that's fine too!!

I had no routine with bleeds when I was taking utrogestran, they didn't conform to the cycle at all! Things are alot better now i have a mirena coil, but it took 2-3 months to settle.

Well it's all moot as I am having a bleed now - ok though as surely will be over before I leave and I won't have to mess around with the progesterone!

I take 100mg Utrogestan daily and very little oestrogen (1/2 a pump a day apart from around ovulation) and I still get a normal, regular fairly heavy period.
Wish the bloody things would stop now, I’m 52 for gods sake

@Loyaltyplease If you're still having periods you'd usually be using sequential HRT not combined continuous. The small amount of progesterone (100mgs) isn't enough to control your natural cycle. The sort you're using is usually for women post menopause.

Apologies if you know this, but hope it helps, if your GP had prescribed the wrong sort.

Generally you're right but it's not always the case. Taking continuous progesterone balances my MH so I function continuously rather than for 2w at a time.

It was agreed with my GP and it's working well. Until this month I was having regular periods. This month apparently it's 6 days in, 3 days off .. but I'm 6m into the medication regime so it's not hrt induced.

Yes, I’ve been given the ok to do this as the highs and lows of taking it sequentially were making me feel awful. It’s also the reason I take a very low dose of oestrogen - avoiding the time around ovulation when my own oestrogen seems to be fluctuating a lot.
