Removal of ovaries

I have had a Gynae appointment today and am left so confused. Reason for referral was bleeding when on HRT, linked to fibroids, so stopped taking it and all fine. However I was worried about losing out on the health benefits of HRT. Whilst I have been on the waiting list I have developed lateral hip pain which gets extremely painful once a month, so linked to a potential cycle. She said having ovaries removed would stop this. I was expecting to discuss hysterectomy whilst keeping ovaries so just losing ovaries feels a surprise. Has anyone had this advice? I am worried about potential heart disease (dad died of heart attack), gaining weight (already over weight) and faster aging which are linked with loss of ovaries and any oestrogen I might be getting from them.

I've never heard of anything so extreme.

Your hip pain could be arthritis which can get worse or start when estrogen levels fall.

TBH I'd ask for a 2nd opinion.

Removing your ovaries won't stop hip pain and you'd still need to use HRT after a surgical menopause.

Have you considered the Mirena coil to control the bleeds?

Have you had any X rays or physio to work out what is going on?
It could be any variety of things connected with your hip joint- inflammation most likely.

I do have arthritis, the lateral hip pain is linked to the loosening of the tendons caused by a monthly cycle, hence the suggestion to stop the cycle by removing ovaries. I am 54 btw so no need for them but I am still confused why they did not suggest removing fibroids. Also suggested mirena + HRT + hysteroscopy but not keen on the coil. Alternative is do nothing.

You don't have to have a monthly cycle on combined continuous HRT. You'd be using both hormones daily so wouldn't have the change to a cycle.

It's not worth removing fibroids unless they are very large and pressing on other organs.

If you've had a scan why would they want to do a hysteroscopy as well? You've been diagnosed with a fibroid.

Why not try continuous HRT which isn't a cycle and see how that goes?

And maybe reconsider the Mirena? if you don't like it , you can have it removed.
