Going up a dose- mental health

Orangesandlemons77 · 23/03/2025 19:30

I'm on two pumps of oestrogen, been struggling with my mental health but it is helping with e.g. hot flushes.

Should I ask to go up a dose, perhaps to 4 pumps? I'm also on fluoxetine and they have tried increasing that already.

Go up to 3 to start with it might be your sweet spot.
give it a month

I guess I had better talk to them before I do that though?

You shouldn't need to ask permission but one thing to watch is if the amount of progesterone you use is enough for 3 pumps. Some women have occasional bleeding if they increase the dose but it's really a case of seeing how you are.

If you went up to 4 pumps and are using Utrogestan, the guidance now is you may need more Utrogestan - 300mgs for 12 days, not 200mgs.

Anti depressants tend not to work for hormonal anxiety so it may be better to get your estrogen dose correct and even try (slowly) to come off them, if your GP agrees.

Thanks. For 3 pumps would I need to increase the progesterone do you know?

It's not mandatory. It's 'guidance' if women find their withdrawal bleeds are heavy or if they start to have spotting in between the withdrawal bleed.

I don't know what progesterone you're using but if it's Utrogestan, you should do the 14 days a month not 12 if you increase to 3 pumps.

I didn’t when I went up to 3
then I just told them I had at next conversation we had.
I can’t tolerate utrogestan either I’m not good with most progesterones
they make me depressed , angry and heavy headed.
so I also got Cyclogest on private instead
but Slynd is meant to be a good alternative to utrogestan apparently with less side effects although it can reduce libido
so back to square one !!!
honestly it’s a tedious fking minefield X
