Is itnthe progesterone or the bleeding that protects the womb

I understand I need progesterone to prevent the thickening of the womb lining. I use Oegstrogen gel and progesterone tablets, which I take for 12 days a month.

I understood I'd have a withdrawal bleed at the end of the 12 days but I usually get a very light bleed after about 7/8 days. Is this OK?

Also is it taking the hormone that prevents the thickening or the bleeding (shedding of the womb lining) because it's very light bleeding for a couple of days, nothing like a period?

Finally, will I continue to have some bleeding as long as I take HRT? I.e on HRT do "periods" never stop? I was still having some periods when I started but I'm 55 now.

The hormone prevents thickening by making the bleed. If you want to stop the bleeding you could try a Mirena coil for the progesterone instead.

Yes, that's what I thought, but what happens if you take the progesterone ina ways that doesn't cause a bleed?

OP if you have the mirena, the progesterone controls the development of the endometrial lining so it can't build up and therefore doesn't usually shed. (or at least very much).

My understanding is that any progesterone (mirena or utrogestan tablets) controls the development of the womb lining so it doesn’t build up. My GP was fine with light or no bleeding so long as I was taking utrogestan. If/when you move to continuous HRT OP, you won’t have any bleeding.
