Waking after 40 mins of sleep most nights

Ahhh so frustrating! In peri menopause and started the lenzetto spray and utrogestan mainly due to sleep issues.
For the first 2 months I went back to sleeping normally and now worse than ever. I typically go to sleep reasonably ok but wake after 40 mins. Toss and turn for hours and then finally go back to sleep. Tonight I'm just wide awake after getting 40 mins and had to just get up out of bed.
Menstrual cycle between every 5-12 days but that's slowly extending out.

Anybody have similar experiences and find a resolution.

How much magnesium glycinate do you take? I take more than the recommended amount on the bottle and sleep like a baby.

I'm only up now because the dog has a poorly tummy..

Thank you. I had heard about magnesium but in sorting out HRT I completely forgot about it as thought HRT would sort those symptoms also.
Will deffo start taking that now and see does it help. Great to hear you had such success with it.

Ah me too. It’s dreadful I have no HRT they wouldn’t prescribe it- i’m 44.

@Ilovelowry
whixh brand mag glycinate do you take and how much? I take the home bargains one standard dose. Will others be the same effectiveness or do you get what you pay for? What about a spray?

Snazoo · 16/03/2025 02:48

Yes lack of sleep by far the worst symptom for me. The HRT has helped with my other symptoms though like nights sweats and brain fog etc.
i am mid 40's also and went to a menopause clinic. Hope you get sorted.

You need magnesium glycinate. I use the Brightavite brand that I get from amazon. I take three capsules about 6pm and this stops my restless legs and also I sleep deeply all night.

Dont get a blended magnesium, you need glycinate. The ideal is 300mg of elemental magnesium a day, I take 450.

Mag glycinate doesn't make you need the toilet like mag citrate. I get no side effects.

I started HRT at 44 @fatgirlswims my GP was delighted to prescribe it. I very quickly went to 100mcg oestrogen patch. Within 6 months I'd changed my prescription 4 times and was getting the best sleep of my life.

I take magnesium glycinate and spray magnesium on my feet.

Also tweaking HRT helps - so the right dose of Oestrogen/progesterone and I’m also on testosterone.

With all this I can finally sleep more than 30 minutes at a time. The other night I only woke up once. I can’t remember the last time I didn’t wake up multiple times a night!

Another magnesium glycinate user here. It’s saved my sleep. I take it just before bed and sleep well

Happy4free · 19/03/2025 18:06

Been using mg glycinate from Nutri Advanced. I take 200mg right before bed and sleep wonderfully. You can take up to 600mg of this one spread out but I haven't needed to. Personally the stuff in the shops isn't as good.

Snazoo · 20/03/2025 08:04

Thank ye all so much.

I got the magnesium glycinate 600 and I have had no issues getting to sleep and slept all night long. It's a miracle!
It's such a relief not to be dreading going to bed!
I feel very tired though- think body just catching up on all that missed sleep!
