Mounjaro Menopause and Failed VS

Hello

Name changed for this!

My DH had a vasectomy 18 months ago which has failed since his sperm count is still high. He’s waiting for another appointment but he took so long I got fed up and came off the pill Jan 01 2025. We’ve been abstaining or using condoms. Not ideal.

I went on Mounjaro on 12th Jan and have also been tracking my temp every morning since I came off the pill (after 30 years) using the Natural Cycles app with the aim to establish natural family planning whilst I wait for his second VS - not easy getting them to do it twice IME. They know what’s coming.

Anyway I’ve been taking my temp every morning and there’s been no ovulation detected and no period forthcoming. I was expecting a bleed from hell after so long on the pill, before if I missed one I got a bleed straightaway. I’ve had literally nothing.

is it the MJ? Is it menopause? Is it random?

I’ve googled and googled and no further forward.

What do I need to ask the GP for; if anything?

if / when I get to April with zero bleed surely I need to know what’s going on?

Also 45 and I m late stage perimenopause, 3 months since my last bleed, have had pms /fantom periods i.e. no bleed but pms twice since last bleed. I don't think I m ovulating or have a lining to shed any more. Anyway you are not too young, but of course, your body may just have gone into hibernation on the pill. Hard to know. Definitely not too young for menopause.

I'd be careful... Fat contains estrogen. When you lose large amounts of it, for whatever reason, the estrogen is released back into your system, and can cause a sudden fertility spike. Unfortunately for you, 45 is neither too old for pregnancy, nor too young for peri/ menopause.

You cannot be considered menopausal until you've had 12 months of no bleeding (naturally). Natural family planning is unreliable in the perimenopausal period, and using Mounjaro makes it even less so.

The GP is unlikely to do anything until you have not bled for 6 months, and you need to use contraception until your husband has had a vasectomy and for the months afterwards until he's had the all clear from his sample.

Mounjaro can affect contraceptive pills, so a barrier method may be best.

thank you, so no need to particularly worry or get a blood test, just continue with the VS x 2 as planned
