Is it Peri? Why am I do mentally exhausted?

Is it hormones? I'm 40, and definitely have some signs of peri. I genuinely have lost the drive to work or do anything that needs my brain in the past 2 weeks. Physical energy I'm OK, yes I was tired this morning but managed to do a 45min spinning class and a 30min HIIT type class.

I kind of want to sleep, but know I wouldn't manage to.

Yes I tend to be iron deficient, and I have started to develop some of the neurological symptoms so I probably need an infusion.

I'm also hypothyroid but it's under control.

There is a list of around 30 peri symptoms online- check them out.
Unless your periods are haywire, it may not be peri (although some women do have regular periods still.)

You're young for peri- if your periods stopped before 45 it would be classed as an early menopause.

Maybe best to see your GP for a blood test because if you know you tend to be anaemic that's the first step.

I've lived around 14 years with iron deficiency, my problems are on the neurological side, not on the "motivational" side so to speak.

I'm seeing my hematologist in April (I'm under their care) so no need for the GP.

From what I've read from papers on Peri, it can start as 10 years before menopause, and if the average is 51, I'm bang on there (in fact for my ethnicity its 48, so even more in line with it).

My cycles have shortened too, and can vary between 21 and 26 days.

It's true that peri can last for 10 years but that's at the far end.

If it's peri your GP can run blood tests, but unless you're really struggling and want HRT there's no need to do anything, other than try to keep up a healthy lifestyle.

In all fairness I'd be delighted with a hysterectomy, but alas they'll never give an elective one. I'm happy to give HRT or even hormonal contraception a chance. I already live a very healthy lifestyle, o it's not like I can manipulate much more on my end.
