Oestrogel impact

I am currently going through the menopause and have been prescribed oestrogel! Any advice on how my body/Boobs will change over the coming weeks?

No change to boobs for me. I think they ached for a very short time when I started it.

It's best to start on a very low dose and work upwards.

Although the dose is 2 pumps a day, some women are fine on 1 pump (long term) so ideally you should start with 1 pump for a few weeks and work up if you need to. (I was advised to start on 1/2 a pump and work upwards over several weeks.)

Any change to your boobs is usually related to how big a dose of estrogen.

On two pumps my boobs haven't changed at all. I did find them quite sore to begin with but that subsided quite quickly. I also started slowly on one pump for a week or so then moved to 1.5 before 2. Think I tried going straight to two but had side effects so reduced again and moved up slowly.

Thanks thats useful! I will expect no real change to my body then.

How much gel are you using?

I'd really try not to think negatively and just see how you go.
Everyone reacts differently.

If you start on a low dose- 1 pump or less (just don't press the plunger all the way down and less comes out) - it will minimise side effects.

Like any drug, you've got to expect some side effects that may happen but they usually settle down.

Thats great! I will only use a very small amount each day and I think I will speak to my GP to get clinical advice. Thanks

I've recently gone back on Estrogel after a trial period of coming off it. Was interested to see how I was without it, and it was a shock to discover how awful I felt. So after 3 months off it, I then went back on just over 3 months ago. I'm only on Estrogel as I had a hysterectomy 14 years ago.

Generally both times I started the Estrogel I did get big sore big boobs for a while. This time it was just after 3 months after going back on, but now a couple more weeks in, and they have returned to their normal size with no pain. I'm not going to lie, they were super sore, swollen and became huge (I'm usually pretty small) but both times this has been a temporary thing whilst adjusting. I just wore a sports bra to bed. Other than that my body has been fine on it once adjusted, no particular weight gain or issues. I'm on two pumps a day and have always been on that.

What size were you and what size did they grow to? I've noticed my bum and hips are growing in size all the time

I'm usually a 34B, they grew a lot larger, were very sore and swollen, it was a bit of a shock! I suddenly had two huge udders instead of boobs! 😂 but it was temporary. They say to wait 3 months for HRT to settle down, but I've always found its a clear 4 months and usually by then I am the same size I was before and the tenderness, soreness and heat in my boobs has gone. I also had very noticeable water retention everywhere plus bloating for the first few months, again this went as suddenly as it appeared around the 3 to 4 month mark.

2.5 pumps a day

That's a high dose to start with.

Ideally you ought to start on 1 pump and see if that controls your symptoms- give it a good few weeks and then increase to 2 if it's not helping.

Why were you told to use 2.5 pumps?

Chelsea2026 · 12/03/2025 09:12

Maybe I made a mistake will cut down to 1 small gentle pump
