Itchy pubic hair help!

TrainGame · 04/03/2025 23:25

I’m 50 and have had really itchy pubic hair, well, the skin area now for a couple of days. It’s driving me crazy.

I don’t shave, never have so it’s not that. I’ve been swimming and sauna-ing, steam-rooming more than usual and notice if I don’t let the area dry completely before putting knickers on, it can get a bit itchy but nothing like this. This is after a shower at home I try to make sure I dry thinks completely but at the gym I can’t wonder round bottomless for ages so not been drying properly which may have set ot off. It’s insanely itchy to the point I’m not wearing pants, just going commando. Wearing pants makes it much worse.

I’ve tried using mild steroid but still insanely itchy. Now found an old tube from post an operation daughter had, that’s anti fungal and betamethasone which is stronger steroid tonight but still itch itch itch.

it’s been like this for 48 hours now. What can I do to stop the itch? Do I just need to wait longer for the steroid to work.

I made the rookie error of snipping off a bit of hair in the hope it would allow the area to breathe more easily, but instead now I have sharp pubes and I know I’ve made a mistake.

no chance of crabs. No sexual contact for over a decade! I’m like a nun!

Help!! Have I got athletes foot on my foof? Did I catch it in the steam room. What is going on?!

There are other ways to catch crabs. I think I'd probably treat to rule it out anyway. It might be soothing.

It's something that you need to try different things from the GP. I had six months working with my GP. Hopefully you'll be lucky

Maverick66 · 04/03/2025 23:36

Itchy Vulva is very much a symptom of menopause.
Things you can try are while waiting on a GP appointment .
Antihistamine or
Two soluble paracetamol or good old sudocreme.

Ramblingaway · 04/03/2025 23:39

Ketoconazole shampoo. External area only. Great for fungal infections.

I used that tonight in the shower but so far no change in the itch.

Estriol cream, but it's not infallible. I still get ants in my pants at night sometimes.

WeAllHaveWings · 04/03/2025 23:52

I used to get it on a monthly cycle during peri and used vagisil cream when it happened. It's lidocaine so guess it numbs it enough to reduce the itch.

It stopped for couple of years, but restarted recently along with other menopause symptoms so along with HRT I now have Ovestin prescribed which is an estrogen crème twice a week and it's helping.

theribbonroom · 04/03/2025 23:53

This is me too.
And I also have itchy face

Boodahh · 05/03/2025 00:00

I've found vagisil good . All the steroid based creams made things worse.

Menoglow · 05/03/2025 22:47

Hi sorry to hear about your itchy vag, very common symptom but one no gp will ask you about you have to bring it up to them. 🤣 is it painful or just itchy? I would say please stop using steroid cream asap that is not going to help. Using the vagisil or canneston will help as the other person stated due to containing lidocaine or plain Greek yoghurt very soothing . But you need to get to gp and explain. It can be eased by using estrogen creams/lubricants/peasants or rings. You could just have a yeast infection. But definitely go see gp and explain. Hope the itch gets scratched 😊😂🫶.

Have you tried some antihistamines?

QS888 · 05/03/2025 22:59

Tea tree oil is definitely worth trying

TrainGame · 06/03/2025 23:28

I thought I’d update the thread in case anyone looks it up in the future.

Hunter Gatherer coconut oil which id never used before, lurking at the back of a kitchen cupboard, so far has been the best.

I may try adding a couple of drops of tea tree oil as suggested above.

It suggests it’s fungal in some nature the fact that coconut is giving some relief. Maybe jock itch? My gym is full of gym bros. Perhaps I caught something in the steam room 😱

I found a medical article, it suggested putting it on 4-6 times daily and that’s what I’ve been doing. Itch is far less but not sure I’m ready for pants yet.

Never thought I’d be in a situation where I can’t wear pants!! Being a woman is so shit at times.

You can catch crabs from anywhere! If anyone in your house has it then you can catch it easily. Lyclear cream

AnxiouslyAwaitingSpring · 06/03/2025 23:49

Also try Eurex cream. It stops itching for 10 hours

cheekaa · 07/03/2025 00:23

Anti histamine for quick relief. Long term as often as needed Dermol 500. Can also be used in the shower. Worth every penny. In the beginning you may need to use it for 3 or 4 times a day but slowly once a day is enough.
