HRT

I am peri menopausal and after not coping with the hot flushes, night sweats and insomnia which is now affecting other chronic conditions, my GP agreed to put me on HRT patches.

My question is for anyone with experience of it is, when should I start to feel a difference?

Also the instructions say to put below the waist, so I put in on my thigh. It dropped off last night. I've now just put another on my shoulder as don't know where else to put it.

I would be grateful for anyone who has any advice.

It will take a month or two to really kick in. Absolutely don't have it above your waist! Try your bottom or another part of your thigh.

UserSchmoozer33 · 04/03/2025 13:23

You'll feel better soon. By summer you'll be grand so stick with it! Wink

Oh gosh it's on my back now it's the second patch I've had. If it fell off my thigh would it not fall off my bottom?

what brand of patches do you have? I have never had an issue getting any to stick to clean skin straight after a shower - don't put moisturiser or anything on your skin to make them stick. If they are falling off, use surgical tape to get them to stay in place.

BlackusCattus · 04/03/2025 13:34

I stick mine to my stomach below belly button and have only lost one in the past 4 years!

SnoozingFox · 04/03/2025 13:39

The only time I have ever lost a patch because it came unstuck was when I was on holiday, in and out of the pool, in and out of the sea, wearing swimwear which rubbed on skin where the patch was. In March, in Scotland, wearing jeans and a jumper it is not a problem!!

menopausalfart · 04/03/2025 14:12

It took me 3 months to see a difference. That depends on your hormone imbalance. You might also have to tweak the dose, so keep an eye on your symptoms.
I put my patch on my bum, it's never come off.

Some people use sticky bandages to keep them on. Something like this:

It's called Evorel

See I was just wearing jogging bottoms but I do work with little ones and I was up and down off the floor and had them sitting on my knee.

menopausalfart- thanks I've ordered some do you think I can save the patch on my back by taking it off and restocking elsewhere ?

OP posts:
menopausalfart · 04/03/2025 14:32

@Itsafable I'd use a new one. Lots of people go through more than they need at first.

menopausalfart · 04/03/2025 14:33

Never put it above your waist, though.

GrimDamnFanjo · 04/03/2025 14:41

Try on your hip when you go to bed. I find this area and lying on your side when you sleep helps the patch to stick down.

Itsafable · 04/03/2025 17:40

GrimDamnFanjo - thanks I'll take your advice on this hopefully it'll stay on this time. Although I'll have the tape I've ordered tomorrow so should stick it down.

What happens if you put it above your waist? I was told to use my thigh too but never warned about putting it too high!

I believe it's connected to having hormones close to your breast tissue?
I don't think it's a massive risk but one you should try and avoid.
