Multioccular/complex ovarian cyst

Hi,

Hoping someone has had a similar experience which ended positively and can help lessen my anxiety a bit!

I recently had an accident and was in hospital. I had a CT scan which incidentally showed up something on my ovaries and a TV/ultrasound showed up a cyst with incomplete septa on one side and a multioculated cyst on the other. It says no sinister features seen within either and all my tumour markers have come back negative but I am now on the 2 week pathway with an MRI and gynae consultation.

Has anyone experienced anything similar? My mind is currently in overdrive and I’m panicking about the worst. 😰

I’m 51, periods irregular but had one in Jan and I’ve been on HRT for nearly 3 years

I had a similar experience of being admitted to hospital for surgery after an accident and having an ovarian cyst discovered on the MRI scan. Scary at the time but it was all fine in the end. I had it removed via a laparotomy and it was found to be benign. Recovery took a bit of time but went well. Best wishes to you.

Thank you so much @chinasea, it helps to hear stories from others and I'm glad things worked out for you.

Take heart from the fact they have been identified as benign as far as they know. I'm sure the next steps are a process just to be sure.

I had a simple cyst which was monitored every few months for 2 years after which it disappeared. (I think the frequent scanning was partly as this was done privately although the 'watch and wait' is recommended by the RCOG.)

The guidance is that in women post menopause, cysts over 5cms are removed as a precaution and as yours has other features it may be removed anyway.

You can always ask for a 2nd opinion if anything is suggested which you aren't happy about.
