Hi,
I’m 48 and not an HRT (yet).

I always have pink cheeks but frequently now I am bright bright red in the face. I don’t think it’s a hot flush as I’m not boiling but my face is boiling and I look absolutely ridiculous!

Does anyone have this? Is it indeed a hot flush? It’s very embarrassing.

I do want to go on HRT but worried about going on it too soon in case my symptoms get much worse and there is no higher dose.

I'm 49 and have been on HRT for 2 years. Each time this has happened to me (twice now), I have upped my oestrogen and it's stopped. So don't rule out menopause/HRT. However, I had other symptoms, such as hot flushes, night sweats, itchy skin, and a complete inability to sleep.

However, it could be a form of roasacea. Speak to a Dr (one who knows about HRT and roasacea).

I'm the same, OP. Face gets red but not feeling very hot or sweating or anything like that. HRT does help it considerably. Being cold and then warm triggers it. I have to use sensitive skin cleanser and moisturiser and not have very hot showers. I keep shampoo etc away from my face. Swimming pool makes it flare up too, and any vigorous exercise.

I think it's a form of rosacea - rosacea just means red skin anyway, though there is an acne type and I think that is the one where there is an overgrowth of mites. Mine is not red all the time, so I don't know if it really counts as rosacea. Sometimes it feels hot to me but doesn't look that red in the mirror.

Hrt doesn't really work like you said, starting off at a younger age and increasing dose. Sometimes it's younger women need higher doses and less is needed in full menopause.

I've had the same thing happen a few times recently too and I'm mid-40s. Not gone to doctor about it because getting a GP appt is a pain in the bum and it doesn't seem to be something causing me any severe issues. I do feel for you though. Sorry I've no helpful answers.

Could it be histamine intolerance? (It’s the histamine that makes us flushed after drinking wine).

Thanks everyone.

I hadn’t considered rosacea and I didn’t realise there were different types.

I shall also look into histamine intolerance.

I do have some peri symptoms (I have Mirena so no periods) so have been thinking about seeing the GP.

I’m keen to go on HRT for the health benefits.
