Taking oestrogen gel on short haul flight

KitchenDancefloor · 16/02/2025 10:30

I'm going on a European flight with no checked in luggage and therefore all my creams, liquid and gels have to be in hand luggage.

Does anyone know if prescription meds be in addition to other liquids? Or has anyone dispensed their gel into small containers?

I'm new to oestrogen gel and still trying to work out the logistics. The packaging also states weight in grams not ml which might mean it doesn't count as a liquid 🤷‍♀️

It does count as a liquid and I always put it with my other liquids in platic bag with hand luggage. Never had a problem at all. I've seen other threads where people have said keep it in original box and have a copy of prescription handy, or on phone, but no one has ever questioned mine just in main bottle.

grams and mls are the same.

The weight is 80gms.

It's 80mls so you are under the 100mls.

I've never had it checked- just put in my suitcase or hand luggage.

Thank you both. I'm probably just overthinking it!

Definitely over thinking it I’ve never had a problem before always popped the bottle in the liquids bag. Enjoy your holiday.

I had to take mine out of hand luggage as the bottle was too big for the clear bag. Was made to wait to show that it was a prescribed item but like pp said the bottle was indeed smaller than required.

Im a frequent flyer and I always keep it separate from other liquids and just say it’s a medication when putting things through security. Never had any problems and I recently took 2 gels with me as I’m staying longer abroad.
as a back up plan have your nhs app ready as oestrogen is probs on your repeat prescription list so that you can prove it’s a prescribed medication

I recently had an issue with too much liquid in a flight as only took hand luggage and more than one plastic bag of liquids
Apparently prescriptions are not counted in the allowance and you can take them just make sure they are in the labelled box with your name etc on still .... I usually bin the box so just keep one this time

I take mine out and put it separate in the tray. And have prescription handy (on phone) just in case it gets queried.

I had it pulled aside by a young man at Stansted once. He was about to take it off me when an older woman came over, took one look at me and said “give the lady her meds back. This is not a battle you want to have!”, winked at me and strolled off!

if the worst should happen, you would probably be able to get a replacement at a pharmacy where are are going.
