Progesterone

Has anyone taken progesterone with estrogen after total hysterectomy? I think progesterone helps as a calming hormone? I am only on estrogen patches and my anxiety is terrible x

It's best to avoid it if you can.
For one reason amongst many- using both hormones increases he risk of breast cancer (after 5 years)
Might be worth trying a higher dose of estrogen?

It's not 'calming' for everyone - lots of women here feel terrible on it.

I am due a hysterectomy because I have endometriosis, adenomyosis and a buggered up uterus due to a failed ablation. My specialist has advised that I will need both progesterone and oestrogen after the op due to the endo and to make sure the osteogen doesn't activate any missed deposits. I am concerned about the BC risk though as JinglingSpringbells mentions so will have to give it serious thought.

I’m not in your situation, OP, but progesterone intolerance is the reason I gave up on HRT. The benefits of the oestrogen didn’t counter the negative effects of the progesterone for me (and I tried several types). It actually made my anxiety and insomnia worse, as well as giving me headaches and nausea. Obviously we’re all different and lots of women are fine with it, but if you do try it it’s worth bearing in mind that it could make you feel worse.
