Hi everyone, im 52 years old. Just recently i was getting very sharp stabbing pain in my right fallopian area, i went to the gp who sent me to the hospital with suspected appendicitis. I had bloods & urine taken followed by a CT scan. All came back fine, so they decided to do a ultrasound on my tummy & internally. I was advised my womb lining is 7mm and too thick for a woman of my age. I have had the mirena coil fitted for approximately 18 months and been on oestrogel for the same time. They was very concerned and said i need to be seen by a gynaecologist urgently, i haven’t had any bleeding but as far as i am aware you dont bleed with the coil fitted. I had a letter saying i was on the cancer pathway, which was such a worry. The following week i had my appointment with the Consultant i walked into the room and he said you shouldn’t be here, the coil is doing its job because you are not bleeding and he wasnt at all bothered about my lining being 7mm. I walked out feeling a little frustrated as i am now wondering if i should have had a biopsy? Im so confused any advice would be vey appreciated thank you 😊

Are you still getting the stabbing pains?

I would have thought bladder stones but you say they have looked at your bladder?

I'm sorry you've had such a stressful time. Consultants are quite often abrupt with their delivery but excellent with their knowledge . So if they're not worries then that's good.

The pain has eased off now but occasionally still get a flutter. I had a ct scan and an ultra sound but the thing that concerns me is my lining is 7mm. I thought a mirena coil thins the lining?

Lining of 7mm is considered normal on sequential hrt. I appreciate you have a Mirena. They'd be concerned if you had bleeding. But the Mirena is actually a treatment for hyperplasia. It's not just the thickness they look at on a scan- it's for regular 'stripes' of the endometrium and if anything looks different. That should be in the scan report- have you seen it?

Oh ok i was told anything over 5mm is a concern.
i always thought the mirena job is to reduce the thickness of the lining. I haven’t had a hystoscopy only a ultrasound and ct scan.
Thats reassuring to hear thank you.
