Have finally overcome my (ridiculous) embarrassment and asked GP about testosterone for my disappeared libido. It has to be prescribed by specialist, so I’ve been referred and am now awaiting an appointment.
Has anyone here tried it? Did it help?

I’m 56, and on Everol Conti, btw

I love it. Love having a libido again and the time/inclination to do something about it now my previously undiagnosed lichen sclerosis is under control and the kids have left home.
I feel like I'm making up for lost time

Started testogel in July, has made very little difference.
There may have been some subtle improvements in energy and cognition when it was added to a higher dose of oestrogen, but no change in libido or mood.

I've discussed with my GP (who can prescribe because she's the specialist for the region, luckily!) but we've decided to increase the other HRT first and see if that helps.

She told me that it only actually does anything in c6% of case, and in 60% there was a placebo effect (love a good placebo, just a shame they can't actually prescribe them without you knowing, it would be cheaper for the NHS!).

I have one friend it has done nothing for and one who went sex crazy and had to come off because of how high it took the levels in her blood.

It can indeed only be prescribed in England for low libido that is having a mental health impact.

It's only been being prescribed for about six years so long term impact is pretty unknown.

My GP says she'll review me in 3m. My testosterone levels are in the low side of normal, but normal none the less.

I was hoping it would help my hair grow back. When the doc said to rub it in your groin because it can make hair grow I said I'd rub it on my head then. She thought I was joking!!

Thanks again all, mixed bag of experiences.
I think it will be worth a go, as the worst that can happen seems to be hairy thighs/ more luxuriant bush; well, that or just no effect at all.

Hoping I’ll be one of the lucky ones for whom it does something good!

I've tried it twice. It seems to irritate my bladder and make me feel urgency and like I'm leaning.

Also makes me anxious.

Gutted.

I'm on it a few months - was on 5ml (A drop from the sachet) every day. I was prescribed it by my GP (in Ireland) for low libido and it did improve that 😀, I'd forgotten about the body hair thing until I read this thread but I recently noticed a hairy bikini line - I was putting it on my thigh.
At my last checkup my choletrol levels were high so my GP has reduced my dosage to every second day - apparantly testosterone can elevate cholestrol. I'm to go back after 3 months to recheck cholestrol on the reduced T dosage, and hope the libido part is ok.

I didn't use it for brain fog - I'm not sure about brain fog. I probably have a bit of brain atrophy with so much of my body falling apart! I've recently started doing crosswords again... is that the T?

How's everyone getting on ?
Did you start it @PearlClutzsche ?
I'm a week in and I think it's making me quite jittery & nervey @DameM mentioned that .
I'm going to try every other day and see if that stops me feeling on edge ..

It's up to you but I was told to use it consistently or your body can't settle as it will be fluctuating.

Is it possible that you are just nervous about using something else? Have you had caffeine that could be making you feel jittery instead?

olympicsrock · 20/02/2025 06:23

I used it for 6 months. I’m on HRT. It didn’t make a difference to my libido at all.

Thanks for checking in! I've been referred to the menopause specialist as my GP can't prescribe it. No idea when that will happen.
In the meantime I've started my new HRT - Evorel conti which isn't working at all. Menopause is such a nightmare!

Thanks everyone for your further comments and experiences. 👍
