I'm not sure there is a perfect answer to this, but I am getting myself in a tiz thinking about it so looking to MN for advice!
I am flying to NZ next month, holiday of a lifetime type thing, for 3 weeks. Just occurred to me that the last time I went anywhere further than the costas was pre-peri and I now have to think about medication. I do the gel in the morning and Ustrogestan before bed. How is it best to figure out a schedule for a) the massively long flight which does not have a clear bedtime or morning, and b) the time I am there, and the whole thing in reverse.
Many thanks!

I just worked out the length of time that I normally took between the two doses and followed that for my flight to Oz. Then, while I was there I took the doses as normal at the usual times. I may have missed one or the other to even it up, I can’t remember. I did the same on the return journey.

I hadn't thought of calculating the time, that should be do-able! Thank you for helping me see clearly.

You’re welcome. I can remember having the same conundrum. I’ve done the journey a couple of times without issue. Enjoy your time in NZ!

If anyone can help with my next issue? Having worked out a schedule that I will doubtless forget about in the air, I have now discovered that transit through Doha brings its own joyful problems. Bringing meds in their labelled packages is fine, but I don't have the prescriptions - both DH and I get repeats of our beds on the app. Appreciate any advice on this as obviously one of these prescriptions is for anxiety....

I got my GP to write a letter saying what medication I was on. Should have cost £30 but as I was a local GP who id been on committees with he didn't charge which was really nice.
That said I wasn't asked for anything when I arrived in Doha last week.
The gp surgery may be able to print out the repeat order form which is how we used to reorder scripts but the letter is the best bet.

If you are just transiting in Doha though you will just go through transfers so my not need it then

I admit I don't have a clue on this but if you take the gel +tablets in your handbag, do you have to declare them? Is there a bag search?

I've not flown for ages, but my HRT is private prescription so there is no 'paper trail' of the items anyway. Each prescription is on an A4 sheet of paper, from the consultant, and it's handed over to the pharmacy who keep it.

BigDahliaFan · 11/02/2025 11:54

I offered to show them on my Patient App and they just waved me through. I had the pharmacy bag too with the information on it that looked official.

Thanks! Good to be reassured, and yes we are transiting so hopefully this won't matter. I went down to the pharmacy today and got the print outs. I did wonder about showing the app,but sometimes having a piece of paper gives more peace of mind.
I had no idea when we booked that this could be an issue. I realise it is on me, but just shows what you don't know!

Would you consider switching to a patch? No need to worry about time zonesI switched when there was a shortage of gel and much prefer it now, only have to think about it twice a week, rather than every day.
