Hi

Ive been suffering from peri symptoms for over a year now. I unexpectedly fell pregnant and lost the pregnancy in November. Since then I’ve been on an emotional rollercoaster with my hormones.

I have a copper coil for contraception but I’ve seen a private menopause doctor who first prescribed me Qlaira. I took one and became very itchy so she then has written a new prescription for slynd pill and everol patches.

Does anyone have any experience for either of these? Experience of what has helped if you have pmdd on top of peri too please. I have awful anxiety and have been scared to try either for the side effects. I can’t go on feeling like I am though so need to do something.

I’ve ordered magnesium glycinate and vitamin D too. Don’t drink alcohol and eat clean.

Thanks

I had a Mirena coil fitted for heavy periods, and found that it helped my PMT rage. I like the fact that it’s a constant dose, rather than tablets for so many days, and it’s low dose too.
Then I added in gel when I wanted HRT. I like the gel as I’m in control of the dose.
Look at getting vitamin D3 with K2 as it’s good for bones.
Look at vitamin B complex for energy, and omega 3 for joints.
Anxiety is common in peri, as is being scared to take HRT, but it really should help if you give it time. I was nervous to start it, so I committed to a six month trial where I wrote down symptoms so I could see the change, and I never came off it.

Did either of you suffer with cramps? I’ve had period like cramps for days, feel hot and anxious but no period, I’m 46 and keep being told I’m too young for perimenopause

You’re not too young for peri.

If you’re 45 and over, print out the NICE guidelines, present them to the GP and firmly request HRT, if that’s what you want.

Rosesanddaffs · 13/01/2025 13:03

@DustyLee123 thank you, I’ve had scans and blood tests but because thankfully it’s nothing sinister it’s a case of just get on with it.

I will have a look at the NICE guidelines.

Sorry @Newgirlintoon to hijack your thread xx

So sorry to hear of your miscarriage.

How old are you?

Is there a typos- slynd pill?

Can you say what you're on with the Evorel patch?

Thank you. I’m 38. And the pill is called slynd for progesterone and 25mg everol patch. All prescribed by the menopause clinic privately.

Absolutley not too young, the lack of information in the medical profession around this is stunning.

HRT took at least 3 mths to start working on my anxiety. Most people who take HRT have to have it tweaked to suit their needs. I'm on Everol Conti patches. Don't be afraid to start.

It's an unusual combination.

Is this so the mini pill also works as birth control?

Usually for it to work with hrt you'd take a higher dose.

Did the consultant explain why they gave you that one?

Just trying to understand.

Newgirlintoon · 13/01/2025 21:28

She said it has worked well with people that have pmdd. I’ve only recently, as in the past year been experiencing pmt symptoms. She just said it was a newer form of progesterone with fewer side effects and that I could cut the patches and buildup to the full dose and see how I get on.

Hi OP! How you getting on with Slynd?

Newgirlintoon · 02/06/2025 18:52

I’ve still been to scared to start it! 🤦‍♀️

OP posts:
AnotherNaCha · 02/06/2025 21:49

Oh bless!

I just got prescribed it today. After some very crazy progesterone history.

Maybe we could start together?

HappyHedgehog247 · 02/06/2025 21:54

I take Slynd and oestrogen patches (but 100 not 25). I am peri menstrual and get PMDD. I've just done 3 months on Slynd and was on utrogestan before but was bleeding heavily every 2 weeks even though the PMD was fine as soon as I started oestrogen. So far, so good. A bit of weight gain is my only side effect. Worth it even though it's annoying. Apparently that's unusual.

Itsbeenalongoldday · 02/06/2025 23:14

With anxiety I found the supplement magnolia rhodiola complex from victora health works well, I take 1 in morning and 1 in evening.
i have been taking HRT for 7 years - sandrena gel and Mirena coil for progesterone- the progesterone pill did not agree with me. This combo seems to help me get through.

Have you started it yet? I stare at mine everyday and just feel paralysed with fear into taking action!

I have Evorel Conti. I take antidepressants and the following supplements - vitamin D, omega 3, probiotics, magnesium and I am just starting vitamin B2 but that’s for migraine. I take Berocca ad hoc. I think magnesium makes a really noticeable difference.

for me the following have helped. Exercise (started with Reformer Pilates which I highly recommend for its many benefits) I now also run, swim, do Barre and just started CrossFit. It all helps massively with body and emotional changes, mood upheaval (!!!) and sleep. Protein. Eat enough food, and enough protein. This really helps my mood and energy levels.

On the anxiety side, I suffered for years and perimenopause has actually coincided with improvements, but I recommend Claire Weekes audiobooks, meditation (as little as 3 mins guided meditation a day helps) and, when you need it, Nytol or Sominex for sleep. And be kind to yourself.

I take all of those supplements too and have magnesium glycinate there ready to take but again I’m a bit anxious it will make me feel spaced out?

I also do reformer Pilates and walk for an hour a day along with eating a clean, none processed diet. I don’t smoke or drink alcohol either! I think the lifestyle is good so can only blame my hormones 😂

SisterTeatime · 10/06/2025 14:01

Reformer Pilates is great, isn’t it? I love it so much! It sounds as though you’re doing lots to support yourself. I take magnesium and it simply seems to help me sleep. My DH takes it too and says the same. Is your anxiety specifically health focused?

I bang on about Dr Claire Weekes because she is my anxiety guru. Her books - for me especially as audiobooks - approach anxiety, or nervous illness, from a clear and simple viewpoint, explain the sometimes dreadful physical symptoms, and provide a route through to something very like total freedom from anxiety. They’re old fashioned but that’s quite comforting. I’ve had lots of therapy and read lots of self help (some of it’s been brilliant) but for that daily struggle against anxiety and panic nothing has come
close to her method. I can’t recommend it enough. One of the best things is that although she actually goes into quite a lot of detail, you don’t have to remember much to put it into practice. That’s so helpful when you’re in an anxious state.

Newgirlintoon · 14/06/2025 10:10

Well I started the Slynd tablets 4 days ago and felt great until this morning when I started feeling very sick and light headed. Had to use the toilet immediately and have had to come and lie down. Now panicking!

@Newgirlintoon just started slynd and evorel 75. Experiencing pmdd in perimenopause and after a couple of years trying other combinations, am hopeful this will reduce my pmdd symptoms.
how have you got on? Are you feeling a bit better?
