Can’t decide whether to give HRT a go.

Prescribed Evorel sequi 3 months ago. Finally decided it was time to give it a go, opened the pack to read the instructions and am freaked out by all the risks again.

main symptoms are anxiety and just feeling ‘edgy’ all the time, early morning wakening, joint pain and feet pain.

keen to hear of positive stories where HRT has helped similar feelings and worked quickly. Finding it difficult to decide if it’s defo peri or I’m just grumpy, stressed and old🤣 (nearly 50) and therefore worth the risks.

thanks

Have you ever read the risks on a packet of paracetomol or codeine? Or on decongestent? HRT is broadly very helpfl and if you are suffering with low level anxiety, edginess etc, it may well be the solution. I would 100% give it a try.

I have certainly felt a million times better. It's not a silver bullet - things dont' miraculously become perfect. But I have felt better, I sleep better, I'm less overwhelmed, I'm calmer and less edgy. It has been amazing.

Passthecake30 · 09/01/2025 21:38

I went on HRT due to night sweats, palpitations, night waking, achey ankles. Within 3 days, I was cured!

gamerchick · 09/01/2025 21:39

I feel loads better. First couple of months was getting used to having hormones again today but feel so much better now. Need to put the estrogen up but I'm waiting a couple of months.

HRT saved my life. I can't advocate enough for it.

cleowasmycat · 09/01/2025 21:41

Also at nearly 50 it is peri

Fleetheart · 09/01/2025 21:43

just go for it; it has many protective effects

ClydeBank · 09/01/2025 21:46

Love my evorel patches and my utrogestan. I hadn’t actually realised how anxious I was til I took hrt. Plus protective measures ❤️

Fuckingfuckssake · 09/01/2025 21:58

Just try it! It hasn't got to be a definitive decision, just give it a go for a couple of weeks, if it's not for you, then stop.

ScarlettSunset · 09/01/2025 22:07

I went to HRT it's amazing! I had gel first but got migraines (possibly not even related but I stopped just in case), and now I am on patches.
They've taken longer than the gel to have an effect but now they have it's really helped.
It took me a while to start them too, but not looking back now!

Elli123 · 09/01/2025 22:16

Thank you for all the replies, just what I needed for my indecision😁.

i guess part of me thinks so much is just put down to peri but the edgy/ worried about everything is really hard to shake.

i guess if i see an improvement its fairly conclusive. Encouraging so many have had a positive experience.

I was the same. Reluctant to start, then I was so desperate I begged the dr for it. Then I couldn't wait to pick up the prescription. Then I read the leaflet in the pack and was petrified.

I enjoyed listening to this

I’m just about to start my
3rd cycle of HRT. So far so
good. Better sleep, more energy, a lot less anxious, happier digestive system.

Elli123 · 14/01/2025 22:44

Thanks for the further replies. I started on Sunday -all ok so far other than a bit itchy where the patch is.
im wondering now how I’m likely to feel when I change to the progesterone patches in two weeks? Any experiences welcome.

Glad you're going for it. I was allergic to patches (allergic to most plasters) so swapped to gel. Might take a bit of tweaking to start with, but well worth it in the end.

I’m on gel oestrogen and oral progesterone so it might be different. But my experience with the Progesterone was that I was quite groggy the first day, but then I started to have some of the best sleeps I’ve had in years and that made me feel fantastic. And now I look forward to the 12 days of Progesterone.

Another person for whom HRT saved my life. I have the coil and oestrogen gel. Cannot use patches because I swim daily. Had a few days of being itchy and not sure who I was but since then I have never felt better. Wish I had done it sooner.

Barbadosgirl · 16/01/2025 12:48

I just spoke to my Doctor as my mood is so low and I am constantly close to tears and it is frightening. I have brain fog and disturbed sleep too. I have stuff going on but this is becoming debilitating. She is 99% sure I need HRT and is revving up but her guidelines are that I need a blood test for FSH levels first as I am 45 not over 45. So am getting that done and then I think I am going to go for it. Anything is worth a try as this is terrible.

Same here.

kittybloom · 16/01/2025 12:52

Mine sat on top of cupboard looking at me for about a month! Eventually I started it on a Friday and by the Monday felt like me again. Really don't care if that was a placebo effect.

Try it - it is easy enough to stop.

I would fight to the death if anyone tried to take my HRT away from me, it’s quite possibly saved my marriage and sanity. It took me 3 years to get a HRT that suited me, but I was determined to find one that did. I also take testosterone for lack of energy and libido.

A lot of women are scared off by all the negatives, I have had other medications for an ongoing illness with way more negatives than HRT and no fuss has been made of it like we see with hormonal treatments. I had to have regular blood tests with my other medication as it could cause serious issues and even death, so for me HRT has had far too much bad press.

Drs are at last being more positive about prescribing HRT instead of shovelling anti depressants down us, my Drs have been excellent, although I initially sought out the service of a specialist as my Drs weren’t comfortable with the testosterone side of it. Now, down to my experience they are confident to help other women with this prescribing and that’s great.
