Is it worth seeing a menopause specialist?

I'm 44 and have regular (but very heavy) periods only 24 days apart. I feel perimenopausal, with feeling very rubbish for at least two weeks per month (the two weeks leading to period). It seems to be getting worse - very fed up, tired, grumpy, anxious.

If I see the GP and ask for HRT, am I likely to be given it, as I'm under 45 and have periods? I've seen online that there are gynae consultants specialising in menopause who I could pay to see. Is that overkill though?

I feel I need some support medically but I'm not sure where to start.

I’ve just turned 45 OP and called my GP about very similar situation a couple of years ago. She completely agreed it sounded like perimenopause and said I was too young for her to prescribe HRT straight off but she referred me to a gynae. It was quite a wait to get the appointment and then it took me months to psych myself up to take it but even at a low dose it has helped me. It isn’t a silver bullet but I felt instantly more “placid” in a good way.

I’d speak to them and just make sure they don’t instantly fob you off with anti-depressants. That’s quite common I hear.

Not sure why there is this 'age barrier' for HRT.
There is nothing in the medical guidance about 44 or 45 being too young.

It's nonsense.
If you have symptoms, it doesn't matter if you are 34, 44 or 64.
And the younger you are, the more it's likely to be necessary for your bone health.
