What is causing this burning

I’m literally in agony with vaginal/anal burning . I’ve gone through the menopause and suffered with vaginal atrophy before so took hormone pessaries for about a week . When I was still in pain I went to the doctor . She said it was Vulvitis and gave me steroid cream . I’ve been using it for five days and the burning has got worse . The doctor isn’t open until Monday so I thought I would use some canesten - just in case it’s thrush . Now I’m in agony - it burns so much I’m shaking . I’m not going to be able to to sleep tonight and have no idea what’s wrong . Has anyone experienced this . No discharge or itching . Just severe burning .

Yep like tiny paper cuts

You poor thing this sounds awful. Try a thrush external cream as well as the pessary. I had a similar issue and that helped.

If you're postmenopausal (one year since your last period) you really need to see your GP for any bleeding as they need to rule out endometrial cancer.

But yes, atrophy/dryness can cause small tears in vaginal tissue that bleed.

This is one of this things that you shouldn't self-diagnose though. And proper treatment can improve the situation and stop it from progressing.

I’m no doctor but it sounds more like cystitis to me . I’d get checked out x

Just found this thread. I'm 53 and still having regular periods which are getting worse every month. I ache all over especially in the mornings and I have a burning down below externally. I have never had any dryness though and it doesn't itch, it just burns sometimes, really intensely but the rest of the time it's low level. The mucus is annoying but nothing like thrush.
I tried hrt and it did nothing for my symptoms. I was on various regimes for a while and when they increased the patches, I felt so awful I went cold turkey and felt better. But this burning has just gone on and on. Could it be vagina atrophy?

Doubt it if you're still having periods. Have you had a swab, been physically examined by anyone?

I would ask to be referred to a gynaecologist. I didn’t feel dry either when the burning was really bad but was finally diagnosed with atrophy from a gynaecologist. The GP’s aren’t experts on menopausal symptoms xx

Not yet I haven't. I will have to get seen asap.
Thanks for the post. I'm lying here now and it's burning slightly. It actually felt better after having a bath last night and I even risked a drop of bubblebath!
