Vagirux- ok to use more often?

Need to use it once daily. And suddenly the GP has rejected my request to re prescribe. What am I supposed to do about this, right before Christmas?
I stopped using it daily a few months ago thinking it would be fine and went straight back into dryness, itching and UTI. Solved by restarting Vagirux. Didn’t even need the antibiotics I was prescribed to resolve the UTI. So it was actually a hormonal deficit and not an UT Infection. Why is the GP now rationing like this? Also, no other support has been offered, just a refusal of my request. I’m not just taking this medication for fun, FFS.

After the initial daily use its meant to be used twice weekly. Ask your GP for that.

Thank you. I do understand the recommended use but it didn’t work for me. It is low dose so I had understood using it more frequently is fine. It works at once a day for me. I am also on a high dose of oestrogen systemically because my levels are low as shown on blood tests, had my GP looked at that.

I asked the GP for a repeat prescription of Vagirux because I had run out. So even if they want me to use it more sparingly, I haven’t done so and now I have no supply over Christmas when everything is closed.

It feels punitive as a patient because if GPs are concerned about overuse (without apparent risk of harm) they should prescribe again and open a conversation at the same time about why isn’t a medicine working well enough at recommended use.
It’s so patronising and I have enough health crap to deal with at the moment.

If you are desperate you can buy it at a pharmacy, brand name Gina. You should be able to get some today up to Xmas eve. The pharmacy may ask you some questions but if you explain that you normally get it on prescription that should be fine.

It is worth trying to cut back on it a little to maybe 4 x a week and see if that helps.

Thank you both. Happy to say I went back to the GP and asked them to represcribe as I was completely out and they have now done which is a big relief.

JinglingSpringbells did you mean 4 x week can be more effective than 7 x week? How does that work?

I meant that using it 4 x a week may be okay because as the treatment works and the cells change back to 'normal' you may find you don't need it daily.
If you carry on finding you have to use it every day, long term, it's worth asking for a referral to a gynaecologist for a 2nd opinion. The safety re.womb lining is based on using it 'as directed'. Some specialists may suggest a scan now and then just to be sure all is okay.
