Awful pain

Can peri menopause cause horrendous pain? Ive had health issues for a few years surrounding my stomach so I am unsure if this is peri menopause or something else. I need to educate myself more on all things menopause as I know I cant rely on Doctors with this, but I am really struggling.

I have felt for a while that my hormones have really changed so felt that possibly I have peri starting. My periods had been quite regular but my last period was a week and a half late and for 2 weeks had quite bad period pain.

However 2 days ago my period started finally, its lighter than normal but the pain is awful, I would literally take labour over this as it is so bad, pain killers arent touching it and it is taking my breath away and stopping me speaking at points. It reminds me of the most intense labour pains I had and I cannot move with it. Ive never had pain this bad.

Would peri cause worsening pain to this degree? I am going to book the doctors anyway to discuss this as I cannot deal with this level of pain but I need to know if this is at all normal?

I had occasional bad pain but also very heavy periods. I thought it was just peri but got checked out and I had fibroids. Much better since they were removed and I had a mirena fitted

Ive had scans a couple times in the last couple years as I have an ovarian cyst and also been having abdominal issues for a few years, so would fibroids have been picked up?

Im going to speak to the doctor monday as im really struggling with the pain so much, its unbearable today and I cannot find anything that is helping at all.

I'm so sorry 😞 My period pains were terrible pre-children, then improved. Now in perimenopause, they're worse than before, and like you, I find them intensely painful to the point where I need to literally bend over doubled up in pain.

They were never this bad before, and I'm saying that as in, I thought i could cope pretty well with how intensely painful they used to be. This is almost another level, and how I'd imagine being in the last stages of labour to be (i had 3 c-sections).

Sending hugs and solidarity, then a big dose of pain relief. You have mu sympathy ❤️

@ForeverDelayedEpiphany it's good to know it's normal and also sucks to know someone else is suffering. But I will be going to the GP if its normal as I refuse to be in this much pain each month, if they can give pain relief for labour pain and this is worse, I'm sorry but they need to do something. I've had this pain for 2 weeks with 3 days being unbearably bad and I'm not going to go through another month without some decent level of pain relief.

I had gynae pain pre taking HRT. Been scanned, one fibroid but no cause for the amount of pain I was getting. It's resolved on HRT.

I acquired adenomyosis out of nowhere in my mid 50s - the kind of pain where you sit rocking back & forth and throw up, could hardly speak or walk. Not fun! I went to A&E as it was so bad and I had no idea what it was.

So, yes, go to GP. You can get new conditions at any time.

Pain relief - alternate ibuprofen and paracetamol with codeine.

I can't take any kind of NSAIDs so rules out a lot of over the counter meds and paracetamol isn't doing a thing.

This pain is too much, I suffer with chronic pain so honestly I'm a bit too used to pain but this is not tolerable so I need to do something.
