Horrible brain fog

Hello for the past few months I've had brain fog which is getting progressively worse. I'm 48 and my periods are still regular but I'm sure I must be in the perimenopause. I find it so hard to function. I struggle at work with verbal and written communication as I find it so hard find the right words. I find even basic tasks overwhelming like getting my daughter ready for school, housework etc. I feel overwhelmed and like I'm wading through thick mud. I've asked a gp if I could try HRT but she said that as my periods are regular, she can't prescribe it. Has anyone been through similar and have you found anything to help? Thank you.

Do you have anyone at GP surgery who specialises in women's health? There is a Nurse Practitioner who is a peri/meno specialist at my GP. She's quite honest in saying that the GPs don't actually know all the effects of peri/meno and that she is the first port of call. If you don't have that, ask to see a different GP and try again.

You don't need to see a GP at all - i didn't! I ordered mine through Boots pharmacy. You just have to know your blood pressure and answer the online medical history.
I spoke to the pharmacy team and was prescribed it.

Also, you CAN take HRT if you are still having regular periods, this is nonsense. It even says it in the medical leaflet that came with my HRT!

Thank you both for your replies. I'll see if I can get an appointment with someone who specialises in women's health. I had no idea you can order HRT through Boots without going through your GP. I'll definitely try that.

Yep, all done online. Just click on the "online doctor" part of the website.
Obviously if you have a complicated medical history it's probably best to try to see a GP in person, but for me this worked well, and you can contact them at any time with follow up stuff.
I've no idea why GPs gatekeep HRT like this for women.
