Does the progesterone bit get better? Help!

So I'm on patch 3 of the 2nd part of evorel sequi & what the Fuck is going on?

The estrogen only weeks were fantastic, I felt so well & with it, but the afternoon of the first conti patch knocked me for six. I even felt nauseous & I'm never sick, ever.

But now, 3rd patch went on on Sunday, it's Tuesday & I don't want to move for the dizziness. My anxiety is off the scale, I'm hyper focused on my breathing cos I feel like I'm suffocating (I'm not) - I feel horrific!! My misophonia is being triggered, tinnitus is deafening & I feel like my head is full of cotton wool, it's awful!

Currently on my own cos DH has taken the cat to the vets with ds3, he wanted me to go with them so I wasn't alone but the idea of moving...😮‍💨

Is this a normal reaction? I'm dreading putting the 4th patch on tomorrow

Oh my god I had exactly the same when I was on the patches while using the progesterone part. I felt ill. My anxiety was bonkers and I would wake in the night with a jolt like I had woken from a nightmare with my heart racing and tinitus screeching in my ears!!! I was also nauseous and dizzy and so so tired that I could barely function. Back on the estrogen patches and I would feel amazing. I persevered for 6 months hoping it would improve but unfortunately it didn't for me and I had to come off them.

I didn’t get on with progesterone patches in perimenopause. Go back to your GP and request a different HRT. I switched to Oestrogel and utrogestan pills which was better for me. I also took a v low dose citralopram for anxiety. Keep trying different things till you find what works for you.

I really don’t get in with progesterone in any form, the pills, contraceptives etc. It really triggers my depression but I find the Mirena coil more tolerable because it works locally on the uterus rather than getting into my whole body.

Yes I went onto gel and progesterone tablets but was as bad on the tablets unfortunately. So I am currently off HRT and coping okay using supplements. Its not perfect by any stretch but I feel better than I did on HRT. Unfortunately I just don't seem to be able to tolerate progesterone and while I am still having periods (albeit sporadic) I have to have the progesterone element.

My GP did mention the mirena coil but I've only just had a copper coil out that made me horribly anaemic & I really really don't want to have another bit of metal radged in the vag tbh 😭

I really want this to work, I can't believe how much better I felt in those first two weeks. My periods are still perfectly regular - GP thinks I'm just very sensitive to these early changes.

What other things are you using to help?

Thank you. Already a few years into low-dose sertraline for GAD & HA & it actually works really well for me. Well, until now.

I'll do the next patch & start the next box but if it hits like this again I'll go & see them cos it's unmanageable long term.

Hey

so I started the Evorel patches six months ago and like you I was amazing for the first two weeks. After nearly a year of being totally unhinged I felt the huge relief and was better than ever. Then I switched to the progesterone 🤦‍♀️ I was literally falling asleep at the wheel and unable to function in the evenings.

persevered as I still actually felt better than before and was told it could take three months, so I tried. When igot to four months it wasn’t as bad or maybe I was just used to it and winter was setting in and didn’t really want to do as much in the evenings anyway.

it took me until last week to get an appointment with the nurse prescriber and she was brilliant and suggested progesterone tablets that I take two every night for fourteen days (can’t remember name sorry as I’ve not picked them up yet ) and wouldn’t you know I’m a fully better this month that i have been since starting so the dilemma is:

stick with patches because they are so damn easy and hope I continue to improve ….or…

try the tablets and risk going through months of adjustment again give up and have to do the whole six months on patches again ….or they could be perfect for me!

i also have a history of not being able to tolerate the pill or coils etc so don’t expect this to be plain sailing!

following this with interest.

good luck!

Im intolerant to progrsterone. I take Tibolone instead of conventional HRT and have found it to be pretty good. It also helped my libido.
You're supposed to be period free for a year to go on it though

BigDahliaFan · 04/12/2024 19:18

Not for me. I had a mirena in the end. No longer on hrt but still have the mirena. A low steady dose seemed to suit much better.
