Post menopause bleeding

58, 10 yrs HRT and no desire to stop.
I keep reading about the rise in endometrial cancers due to high doses oestrogen although I know it’s still quite rare.
I’ve got a GP appointment next week and I presume I’ll be referred for a scan.
Has anyone else been through this?

What HRT are you on?
A gynae consultant once told me that the best way to control bleeding is progesterone in the womb, so a Mirena coil.

Utrogestan 100 and Estradot 75
My GP has been suggesting I stop but I’d really rather not

You're on a higher dose of estrogen so you probably just need to increase your Utrogestan to 200mgs a day. This is in the HRT/progesterone report by the BMS.

It would also be worth a trial to see if you can cope on a 50mcg patch. At 58 you may need less estrogen. Then you could carry on with 100mgs Utrogestan.

No need to stop HRT.

Thanks @JinglingSpringbells I’ve got a GP appointment to discuss but reducing down to 50 seems like a good start

It's not about reducing oestrogen, it's upping progesterone that stops the bleeding. Or you can try another form.of progesterone, eg Provera. My menopause specialist told me this and also the gynaecologist who did my scan and hysteroscopy when I had it.

I tried all that and eventually got a Mirena which stopped it. In my case I had fibroids.

Yes,they will give you a scan but it varies by hospital. You can phone them to ask exactly what will be done at the appointment. At mine they wanted to do a biopsy there and then.

It's not about reducing oestrogen, it's upping progesterone that stops the bleeding.

It's a ratio between the two.
Higher doses of estrogen sometimes need more progesterone.
