Dry skin around eyes - what helped you?

Along with the assorted other symptoms of perimenopause (but are largely hidden) the latest one has been awful dry skin around my eyes. Have tried hydrocortisone cream which clears it up but I believe this isn't recommended long term? Anyone else suffer from this? If so, what helped?!

interestingly, I recently started getting this and hadn’t associated it with my other peri symptoms but now you mention it, it’s probably quite likely. I’ve been seeing a Chinese medicine specialist for a while and she did some acupuncture specifically for skin conditions, I also used some aloe Vera gel on it and between the two it has cleared up in just under a week.

Definitely don’t use steroid ointment around your eyes. If it’s that bad then go for Protopic/Tacrolimus through your GP. It’s worth talking to the National Eczema Society Helpline first so that you can go to your doctor ready-armed with your information/research, because some GPs- especially the older ones -are a little cautious about Topical Calcineurin Inhibitors. Alternatively you might feel ok to be prescribed a short course of oral steroids.

I had this and was mostly eye lids. Steroid responsive but as you say not for long term use. In the end I went completely cold turkey on every single skin care item. Went back to flannel and water only and a basic moisturiser (checked on SkinSAFE app). Also only used a tinted moisturiser for makeup. Things are better now 3 months later, no flares (it probably took 6 weeks to settle). I thought it was all peri, but actually cutting out all skin care seems to have worked. I’m going to use SkinSAFE app to slowly reintroduce stuff.

Weleda skin food is brilliant, I have sensitive skin and eyes and this is very moisturising. Kiehls avocado eye cream very good too but much more expensive.

I use eye drops. For some reason if my eyes are dry and itchy, my lids join in.

I had exactly the same thing, now I use Hydromol ointment (you can get it on Amazon), works brilliantly.

Drinking loads of water helped me. My skin is very dry and feels like paper, sometimes.

Does it come with redness and itchiness? Mine was a combination of shellfish allergy (when I eat shrimp and crab) and skin redness. Cold-pressed sunflower helps me.

Hydramol will work great, I also use rosehip oil from Triology on my whole face as part of my routine. Its all natural and really helps

Lanolin 'cream' available as Lansinoh nipple cream in the purple tube or Lanolips.
Sticky but wonderfully hydrating.
