Does bleeding stop on continuous HRT?

I'm SO UTTERLY FED UP of having bleeds every month on sequential HRT. As I'll be 54 in a couple of months, my doctor has okeyed me to change to continuous HRT and suggested this would mean I don't have the bleeds. But I still have them.😭 Will it stop? I don't want a coil. I'm on Oestrogel and 1 Utrogestan capsule daily. Thanks in advance..!

I came here to ask the same question ! I'm age 52 and recently went to continous utrogestan along with 2 pumps of Oestrogel - currently on my 4th episode of bleeding in around 2 months, it's worse than having normal periods 😑

Unfortunately it does continue on continuous for some of us. I’m 58 and switched 2 years ago - bleeding more regularly and spotting! Have had 2 transvaginal scans and all ok.
Finally had my first Mirena fitted in September - so far I’ve had a period-like bleed and lots of spotting, but I’m hoping it will settle down.
I was on Oestrogel and utrogestan - now I don’t need the progesterone with the Mirena.

I'm a bit unsure of the HRT timeline in your post.

Have you started the combined/continuous HRT?

If you're already using combined continuous, your GP should have told you that it can take up to 6 months to control the womb lining (and that also depends on your own period 'status'.) This is in all the guidance.

Combined continuous is for women aged 54+ or who have not had a period for 12 months at any age.

If your natural periods hadn't stopped , 100mgs Utrogestan won't prevent the womb lining growing and shedding because your own ovarian cycle will override the low 100mg dose.

If your own periods hadn't stopped for 12 months, the bleeds now could be them! Periods can come more often in peri, not always further apart.
100mgs Utrogestan won't control your own cycle if it's still there.

This is why the age is set at 54 because at that age 80% of women are post menopause (but 20% aren't!)

I have only just, this month, started on continuous. After approx14 ish days, the bleeding started. I was so hopeful it wouldn't. I'm pretty sure my periods have stopped although I don't really know as I've been on sequential HRT for around 2.5 years. Thanks so much for the responses everyone.

Your GP should have explained that bleeding can carry on for 6 months (see the info on the link written by a consultant.)

The effect of progesterone on the lining takes time to thin it completely to the point where it's not shedding.

Presumably you started continuous immediately after your last withdrawal bleed (to avoid the lining building up)?
