Hi all, I'm 66 and I'm really struggling to sleep at night. I've tried discussing this with my doctor and they won't give my sleeping tablets, I've tried calms and remedies.
Any suggestions please?

Melatonin is also great for sleeping, I got mine in America but you can get patches here online?

Which melatonin do you use?
I bought 10mg gummies from Biovea; didn't do a thing?

@lorisparkle which antihistamine do you take, is it piriton?

I was offered hrt after my op but like I say I didn't want them with all the side effects I know every one isint the same didn't want to take the risk of stroke .rather try any thing else rather than hrt .

Maybe you were misinformed back then and not given all the facts by your dr.

The risk of stroke with most types of HRT is no greater than your risk without HRT. There is no added risk with patches - it' s only with tablet form.

Didn't your dr explain this at the time?

It's your choice what you do now but it might be worth listing all the health niggles you have that may still be related to menopause. You say you have hot flushes (and are using an AD for that) and insomnia. Anything else?

francium spray, gets you to sleep permanently (metaphorically speaking)

Please explain how this is this helpful?

@Enigma52 yes, it is piriton. My eczema got really bad as well when I became perimenopausal so it helps with that as well.

Thanks
I'm a my wits end with sleeping issues. Must have spent a fortune on products, supplements and sprays. It's just awful. I'm so tired every day.

Think it's a typo for magnesium

I take Benadryl, seems to work. DD takes Nytol, but you have to be a bit careful with that one. It's quite strong.

I am on HRT and take magnesium glycinate. Sleep is still pretty poor. I have resorted to antihistamines (the old fashioned ones) or night nurse.

What antihistamines do you take, I've been using Phenergan but can't get it anymore. I found it really helpful for sleep.

Doggymummar · 23/11/2024 17:05

Why can't you get phenergN, Im taking it, it's the only thing that touches my insomnia

Enigma52 · 23/11/2024 17:32

Ive bought phenergan ( from Boots) and piriton. Something has to work!

My local pharmacy doesn't stock it and Boots say they can't get it anymore. I've managed to find an online pharmacy that have it, double the price though!

Magnesium is not an instant thing, it takes a while to build up. I definitely notice the difference if I don't take it.

A good bedtime routine, sleep spray on the pillow, in bed at the same time every night and CBD sleep drops. I slept through until 08.00 this morning. I used to wake at 03.00 and then again at 05.00 with my brain yammering on. It takes practice and you have to find what works for you.

Janiie · 24/11/2024 19:59

What's your daily routine like? Ime you need to get up early even if you've had a restless night. Reset your body clock, get up 7am and plan lots of physical activity. So, walk if possible don't drive. Aim for at least 10k steps a day. No (or very limited) caffeine and avoid alcohol.

Janiie · 24/11/2024 20:00

Also, use earplugs even if you don't think noise is waking you. Light sleepers can easily be disturbed by background noises.

EssentiallyItsTrue · 25/11/2024 00:33

Are you overweight? If so then that's far more likely to cause a stroke or cancer than HRT?

I was worried about taking HRT but when I really looked at the stats I realised that I could offset the tiny risk by making sure I was healthy otherwise. I don't smoke or drink but my weight can creep up to the higher end or normal so knowing that I'm on HRT motivates me to watch my weight.

I sleep easily when on HRT and don't if I'm not, it's like a switch.

lozaa1958 · 25/11/2024 10:53

Thanks every one I think i will go back to GP and get more information on hrt and go from there if it helps me to sleep that's a bonus .but thanks to every one who replied. I hope you all are well .x
